REPORTS AND STORIES

November 17th

Today I woke up and I noticed that I've been on my exchange for exact 3 months so far. I couldn't believe it because the time goes by so fast. On the other hand I'm glad to know that I still have a lot of time and many upcoming events. During the time so far I joined many activities at school. Our school has a very active interact club so we already did some Beach Clean-up's and other events with all the members of the club and also member of the local Rotary Club.

Since the volleyball season is already over I decided to join the girl's soccer team of Freeport. I get to know many other girls from different schools in town and I have a lot of fun.

Last month I went to Miami for the Rotary event of my district 6990. We had an awesome weekend in Stiltsville and had a lot of fun. I love the fact that I live in the Bahamas but it's nice to go to Florida to see the other exchange students and share some experiences and spend time together. The fact that the whole Florida district will go to Disneyland in December is awesome as well. I can't wait to see all the students again because it's always nice to talk to them about all the things they have experienced so far. Everybody has to tell another story because for each exchange student this year is a unique thing. It's still seems surreal for me being here in the Bahamas and living the Bahamian lifestyle but I don't mind at all because I'm more than happy here. We soon have our Christmas exams at school and after that we have Christmas break until January. I will take advantage of that time and see more of the island and experience how they celebrate Christmas and new year's eve here. Actually I don't really feel like Christmas is soon because the weather here is still very hot and I'm used to have snow at this time back in Germany. I will miss that but I'm so happy to celebrate this event with my host family because they are very nice and I'm sure it will be a great celebration.

This week we are celebrating a public holiday in the Bahamas and we wear the colours of the flag at school and have special events due to the occasion. At school we have a special programm to celebrate the country and represent the Bahamas with national songs, dances, food and other traditional things. It is very interesting and fun to get to now all these things about the culture that I live in right now. Every time we sing the national anthem at school I get goosebumps and I'm proud to sing it with the other students. It makes me feel integrated and I already feel a little bit Bahamian.

On the whole the time is just getting better and better and I'm glad about every day that I wake up in my new life on the Bahamas.

Today was another day at school and I had volleyball practice for the first time. It was so much fun and I'll get my own jersey and will be able to play in a match in a couple of weeks :) !

I really like the school here on the Bahamas, the people are very nice and help you with everything. Sure that it is very different than school in Germany but I'm glad to experience it.

Now I'm staying at the house of my host family for almost 3 weeks and I'm enjoying every moment. Everyone is so nice and I really feel welcome here.

Like people can imagine the weather here is great and I went to the beach a couple of days ago ,it was wonderful!

On September 21st I will do a presentation at the Rotary Club here in Lucaya about my home country :). I've meet some Rotarians so far but I'm excited to  meet the whole club.

I joined the Interact Club at school and it's very cool and I'm getting to know more people of my school which is great ! I really like to thank Rotary again for giving me this chance to live hear and having a wonderful time :)
