January begins a new year, but for us exchangers the year began on our departure date. Five months! Cannot believe it went by so quick now ive seen the oldies who have gone back to their countries and its unbelievable that almost half my time here is over. The past six months have been incredible, Ive learned that the Danish culture is definately different than from mine. The holidays are now over, celebrations were a bit different like for example the amount and size of fireworks every family buys. The sky was lit at 12 am on new years day its was amazing. The language has come a very long way, I can now communicate with anyone and I have just started reading my first book in Danish Harry Potter size hehe. I am currently SKIING in Norway with my host family and the skills have definitely improved for when go skiing in AUSTRIA! Im really excited about everything specially now that the language is no longer a problem. Gotta go to bed now another day of skiing in Norway tomorrow.

Sov Godt Florida!

Every single day that I live in the great country of Denmark I feel more and more at home. There's just no way to describe how I feel right now it has only been four months since I have been here and I feel like it will be impossible for me to leave, although 99.9% of the time I am having the time of my life, there is also the difficult day or days when I miss my family like the recent only American holiday thanksgiving which only meant NO TURKEY THIS YEAR :(  but danish flęsksteg (a typical danish dish) has made me learn how to cook it because I don't think I could survive without it now!

My language is progressing everyday! I can speak Danish!! but... its really hard to understand when they speak at their regular pace xD

Unfortunately, I've now left my first host family, in the three months I was there I really feel like I became part of the family. Now I'm at a new host family and they are great! Although the Danish culture at first glance is different than American, once you get to know them I've figured out everyone is pretty much the same in the way they live their lives.

Being the only Spanish person around for miles I've been doing a few presentations for schools about immigration to America and the American youth. This has been an opportunity to clear up any and by any I mean many of the misconceptions or questions people have about America. typical questions I get from everyone " Have u ever been to Miami ink" or " do people really drink out of red cups at parties?" so these things had to be cleared up xD! I also went to SCOTLAND with my class from school!! It was awesome!!!

That's it for now,

Tak for alt rotary!

ps: Im cold!!! haha!

WOOOOOOOOOOOOW

:DDDDDDDD

I cannot express how gratefull I am to rotary everywhere for making this possible for teenagers everywhere including me. The 86 hours of no sleep were worth it immediately when I stepped off of the plane.Admitingly I was in a way born into this exchange because of my two sisters having been exchange students but now I know that it was the BEST decision of my life. I have only been here for a short time and I already feel like this is my home and I don't want to leave. School is AMAZING everyone is very friendly. My family is great ever since the first day I have felt welcomed, I have three brothers who teach me danish which is slowly but surely progressing. I have seen incredible things like world war II original bunkers and giant cannons to jellyfish in the beach which was freezing and I was convinced to jump into by my host brothers. The weather is a drastic change but the great experience I am having so far is completely worth it. Again THANK YOU Rotary for everything you have done for me, any news will be sent to you right away!

Mange Tak,

Juan Barona

Jeg elsker Denmark!!!!!
