A short report to tell about a
too short weekend full of too short activities ! :)
As i maybe said before, in
Pompano Beach High, we have the Fridays off ! So last Friday, i went
fishing with the neighbor, who s gonna be my next host dad probably !
we went on one of his friends fishing boat. (just for me to remember
when i’ll read this report in few years : the boat was a Midnight
Express, 34 ft, 3x350hp, going REALLY fast ! 105.21kmh that day !)
So we left in the morning, spent
the day on the boat with 6 ppl, getting ten, laying in the sun till
the fish (the only one of the day) bit the hook ! I got my first
dolphin, a small one, but still a Dolphin ! Then we came back home
around 4 or 5.
Less than an hour after that, my host
sister’s husband, Craig, took me on a friend’s boat to go to a party
in Deerfield ! That was exactly like in the movies J
SO great ! Every Friday, ppl go to that place in Deerfield beach,
called the Cove, they tie the boats next to each other, 5 in a raw and
like 3 or 4 rows. That was just a great evening ! I wish i could do
that with the other exchange students on my own boat, J…
i just have to wait few years for that !
On Saturday, i went to a
friend’s bday. Was nice to spend some time with them, chiling in the
house. Then i went to Marco’s house. Al and Aneta came few minutes
after and we spent the night all together, playing guitar, shaving
Marco’s hair (was pretty short lol !)
And Finally, on Sunday,
Madeleine, Bellina, Marco, Al and Aneta came to my house, we jumped on
the boat, went to pick up Sanne to her place on the lake before we
went to Hillsboro inlet. We anchored the boat turned the music on and
jumped in the water ! Knowing that this is my last weekend with Billie
and Petter, that was a great end of my stay in their family ! If any
exchange student who will maybe stay with them reads this report,
you’ll have a blast in with Billie and Petter !
That’s
it for today J

To start where i ended my last report,...
Just after the Ski in Vermont, i moved to my new family and i'm lucky
to have another great one! Obviously before you move, you have to pack
your stuff... and that's a problem being exchange student. I thought i
would have done that in 30min but i took me more than 4 hours! Then,
as every exchange student, i wondered, "how am i going to go back in
belgium with all those danm things". I wont even tell you my reaction
when i remembered i already moved 6 boxes one month before!
End of January, the Rotary Florida organized a SeaCamp in the Keys. we
did scuba dive in that beautiful place, which was awesome. Last day,
we visited Key West, a really pretty town! In conclusion, we had 4
great days all together in a paradisiac place. Thanks the Rotary for
that !
Beginning of February, i dislocated my shoulder, while my host mom was
in Colorado for funerals. I had to move to my counselor's house for
few days. Obviously i had to stop tennis (i dislocated it during the
first practice) GREAT L.
Two weeks later, i had the chance to go to Hawaii!!!! And that place
is absolutely AMAZING!!!! We had a catamaran ride in the Waikiki
bay, kayak ride with sea turtles to a private island, we climbed a
volcano, visited Pearl Harbor, and did scuba dive with amazing
colorful fishes! The atmosphere is particular there… it’s just…
different… Alohaaaa, that’s the Word to describe it! And for those who
have ever been there: “somewhere over the rainbow, wayyyyy up high”
It was great to meet new people again and to be in Hawaii, just
Hawaiiii!!!!
The end of the week was pretty spectacular. Indeed, the last night, at
3am, we saw an tsunami warning on tv. The tsunami was suppose to come
at 11.19am the next day! we finally evacuated the zone at 9am and
waited on the hill several hours for the tsunami that never came!
We were suppose to spend the day on the beach J
then, it was already March, and my birthday on the 2nd which was
another excuse to go to restaurant. I wont complain about that! Still
for my bday, a friend invited me to a Professional golf tournament in
Miami. It seems so easy when they play J Thanks Maddy !
Then the two next weeks were pretty quiet, we went to West Palm Beach,
saw the Script in concert, we went to Miami, movie and bowling and
stuff like that…
Then my dad came over for a business meeting in Fort Lauderdale, so we
spent the next day together. We went to Naples, west coast of Florida,
and Everglade City where we had a airboat ride. It was nice to see
him, even if it was only for slightly more than 1day. (And he took
stuff from here with him back to belgium! Whew cuz idk how i would
have done that without him coming.
And finally, cuple days ago, i went to the Sony Ericsson Open, a
tennis tournament in Key Biscayne with my Billie, my host mom.
Marie-Claire was there too with her host sister ! We saw many
amazing players such as Tsonga, Venus W, Ferrer, Ferero, JUSTIN HENIN,
Rodick and finally Rafa Nadal ! Great, isn’t it ?!
Today is already the first day of April, and i have to pack my stuff
to go to NYC and Washington! That’s gonna be another Awesome week all
together !
Thanks Rotary once again !

Not even
a month since my last report, but two great things to share with you.
The first one is the Disney Trip! As you maybe read it on reports from
other exchange students, that was AWESOME
We spent 4 nights in a great hotel with a huge swimming pool...
We had a pass for the 4 parks, and spent one day in each. Every one is
different but all of them were really cool! Being together and
quite free for 4 days was amazing. All of us really enjoyed it. We
walk in the magic kingdom which is really pretty... we did many roller
coasters in Animal Kingdom and had a blast in Epcot. In the last park,
the Rotary booked a private area for us, where we had a French buffet,
in the border of the lake to watch the beautiful fire works.
The other great thing i did in December was to go SKIING in Vermont!
I ski every year in France with my family and friends, so i LOVE it!
When I knew I was going to Florida for my exchange year, the last
thing i expected was to go skiing. As a Christmas gift, my first
host family invited me, paying everything to ski in Vermont.
Already
during the flight, thing were going good because thanks to the great
clear weather, i could see Manhattan from the plane! Amazing!
Then we
landed in Hartford (Connecticut), rented a car and went to Mount Snow,
the ski resort. More over, we didn't '' only ski'' ... we did
dog sledding and snow-mobile!!! !that was awwwesome!!!
Even if i lived there for more than 4 months with them, a week all
together is a great opportunity so know the family even better.
That ski trip was a great end after 4 great months in the Kassing
family!
Now I'm in my new host family, and i already know I'll have a LOt of
fun with them!
i have to go right now, we are going for two days in Bellina's house
in Miami homestead...
see you soon for more news

Again a
lot of things to tell…
Few weeks ago, we had a Rotary District conference and a talent show.
We spent the first day in the Hard Rock Cafe of Hollywood, wich is an
amazing place! The second day was more relax. We played tennis, swam,
just hanged together. This doesn’t look extraordinary like that, but
that was a really good weekend, all together !
November was another nice month full of activities J there was the
Homecoming game in my school, where i went with the other exchanges
students ! We had a pretty funny evening ! Just before that, we cooked
Crepes with ice cream, nutella, whipped cream, … muumm !!!
I also went to a Gun Range, normal thing for an American, but really
cool fun a belgan guy ! that was the first time i shot with a real gun
! I hope I'll go again ! I was pretty surprised to see than they
didn’t even asked me my ID !!
The next weekend, my host parents and i went to Daytona, where my host
brother studies. I spend the night in his dorm with his friend and we
had a looott of fun over there ! The next day was really interesting
!W went to Cape Canaveral to see the launch of a space shuttle
(Atlantis) ! That was incredible ! Of course, we couldn’t go really
close from the launch pad, but even though, we had a good spot, next
to a jumbo tron, so we could see what was happening inside too ! I
think i wont forget that, never ever ! Moreover they will launch only
6 more shuttles !
During this month, i also spent some days with my friend, on the beach
at Deerfield Beach, (even the last wk, 26th November, i was swimming
in the ocean, which was warmer than the sea in Belgium in the summer
!)
Another great thing i did was going to a NASCAR Race! We went to Miami
Homestead, to watch the last race of the season! That can seem long
when you know they do more than 200 laps, but the day flew! Even if
Juan Pablo Montoya (Colombia:) Adri!) didn't win, that was another
cool day.
And finally, last weekend, i celebrated Thanksgiving with my
hostfamily and my « host grandparents ». Of course i had never
celebrated that before, and what i remember is that this day is a
great family day, with a lot of FOOD ! Turkey, sweet potatoes and
pumpkin pie… that’s Thanksgiving ! The next day we had a boat ride
till Fort Lauderdale to see the Oasis of te Sea, the biggest ship on
the world. It was quite impressive ! And on Saturday we went again to
Deerfield Beach with Al and Marco.
That’s it for November, J December’s gonna be as full as nov ; next
weekend, I'm gonna stay with my second host family, the weekend after
that we will have a great 4days trip in Disney with all the exchanges
students in Florida. Then, I'm going to ski in Vermont with my host
family, and right after that I'll change my family ! As you can see,
in Florida, you can not be bored !
have a nice day !! |

Even if
there a 3 days long, weekends are pretty busy here…
Two weeks ago, was Al's birthday... we went to his house, to a kind of
bar and to Mcdonald. Mcdonal was really funny... after midnight, you
can no go into the mcdonal anymore, so we went to the ''drive thru
windows'' ...the (smart) lady told us to go in the line to order our
meal... (no cars were there...) so we went in the line... ordered our
meal, and she said ''but you dont have a car, i can not serve you''...
came back to the windows where some hipanos tried to do the same as
us... finally, one of them took his car and went to order every meal!
Mcdonal, the fastest "fast" food ever... we waited 30min before we had
our simple burger
Last weekend, on Friday, Aneta, Sanne, Vilius and I went to Deerfield
Beach… There were some little concerts next to the beach,… the ocean
was quite rough, big waves, wich was really cool ! Then we came back
in my house, played pool, ate pizzas, had a lot of fun. After that, we
went to a Haunted Trail in Pompano. My mother was a volunteer there,
she was soooo scary lolJ. When we saw her acting, she was like a
“zombie” and Marco thought she was drunk. Really funny seing her like
that !
On Saturday, Sanne and Al and two americans friends, Lily and Andre
came home, to write the lyrics of the song we have to do for the
Talent Show…
Not as easy as i thought to « re-write » a song in a different
language…respecting the rythme, the melody and so on, … but we will
try to do it « yes we can J » .
Finally on Sunday, i went to Miami Beach (i love this name… so
unrealistic) … we drove on the ocean drive and we went to the Auto
Show ! Some nice surprises there… Americans car, = BIG J even
europeans car that are sold here are « supercharged » J. The only
little cars i can see here in a VW Golf… but not the simple one… the
GTI !!!
This weekend, i went to Orlando with Sanne’s host mother, her daughter
and other people. We first went to SeaWorld wich is amazing ! there
are bunch of attractions, and differents shows, flippers, sea lions,
and orcas, (Willy J ). I was particulary impressed by the orcas show !
They did flips and huge jumps.
After SeaWorld, we went at the hotel, before going to Universal Studio
for Halloween Horror Night. This place is fantastic! Of course we went
when it was dark, wich is even more beautiful ! we saw differents
Haunted houses, and had a BLAST ! Deby’s friends were really funny,
and just being all together was great ! Universal is really gorgeous !
Next weekend, is a Rotary weekend, wich is gonna be a great time again
! |

airboat, witch was really fun... finally, in the evening we stay

Already I’m here for one
month and it’s time to write the first report.
I’m lucky to be in a wonderful place, in a beautiful house next to
the canal. Mais above all I’m lucky to have really nice people looking
after me. Unfortunately my two host brothers and my host sister are
older and already left the house. However, i keep in touch with them.
The youngest teased me when my host mother send him picture of me
doing his job in the yard. The oldest took me to watch a baseball game
last weekend and will come to play tennis sometime.
In only one month I went twice to a baseball game, one football game
in my High School, went fishing three times with my host dad, visited
Fort Lauderdale with Will, and met many nice people whose i try the
remember the name…what’s impossible yet ! For men, it’s easier, when I
forget, I attempt a « Hi John »…it already worked at school once.
At school, since the first day I know some friends in my French class.
Thanks to them, it’s easier to meet other students. I’m in the
Interact club and the National Honors Society club, with which I help
students twice a week after school with French lessons.
Even if everything is totally different from my country, I have a
great time here ! Actually the differences are really funny.
Everything is bigger here than in Belgium…from the milk bottle to the
size of the cars and the roads.
Thank to the rotary for giving me this opportunity ! I’m looking
forward to know what the future has for me.
