Hello dear friends.
It’s very exciting to tell you about how beautiful has been my experience for the first month.
As you know I came to Fort Lauderdale on august 14th, and my host family, my counselor John Aquino and some members of the Rotary Club met me at the Fort Lauderdale airport.
I’m living with Casey family which is made up of Mike (father, Kathleen (mother), Donovan (son) and Christopher (son). I’m very happy living with them because they are a wonderful family. Their house is next too a canal and they have many pets such as two cats and two big dogs. I met some of their relatives.
On my third day I went to the Rotary Meeting to introduce myself.
I’ve enjoyed many experiences such as going to swim with my host mom in a pool and also going to swim with my host dad in the ocean, going for ride by boat with friends, going to a high school dance, going by kayaking where I got lost, and now I’m participating in a youth group called “Kick Singers” where we do activities like singing and talking. I’ve tried different kinds of food such as Mexican, Italian and American.
It has been a challenge for me to go to Cardinal Gibbons High School and to have to receive classes only in English but I’m taking advantage of this as much as possible because this is the best chance to improve my English, to learn the American Culture and also to represent my country “Ecuador”.
So I believe that my English is getting better every day and I try to speak Spanish as little as possible, even though there are a lot of people who speak Spanish in Fort Lauderdale.
Finally, I would like to say that I’m very grateful for the opportunity that Rotary International has given me, starting with my Sponsor Club “Quito Norte” and then my Host Club “Downtown Fort Lauderdale”.
Thanks a lot.
Nicolas
