I have been here in Marmaris for 2 months so
far...and it feels like if I had been here for at least six months!
So, let me update you guys again.
I finally started school 3 weeks ago. Yes. Pretty late, isn't it? I like
my new school. But, it is VERY different. First of all, it's not a normal
high school. It is a hotel management and tourism school for high
scholars. I love my new friends. Turkish classmates are really respectful
but way too crazy. And I'm having a lot of fun at school with them. :p
I'm taking:
-English
-Turkish Language and Literature
-Tourism and Public Relations
-Hotel management
-Sales
-Hotel Service & Reception
-Cooking
I have picked up turkish really fast and I finally don't have any language
problems. Of course I'm still learning. :)
Turkish it's really really hard though. It is making me forget some words
in english and other languages.
During October I traveled a lot! I went to Izmir three times again to meet
with the other exchange students and stay for a couple of days to enjoy
the city. I went back to Istanbul for 5 days and I had one of the most
wonderful times of my exchange year there so far. But I went there to a
soccer match at a huge stadium and they stole my camera there..
But as I said...I had an amazing time.Long stories...
I just happen to be in love with Istanbul..
I also went to Kapadokkia (middle east Turkey side) with the other
exchange kids for 5 days and it was an unforgettable experience. I had the
opportunity to visit the famous Kapadokkia region where and ancient
underground city once existed and strange cone looking forms of rocks have
developed there during the years in the canyons and were once houses for
people. It looked like another planet. no kidding. They called it here the
fairyland. But it doesn't have anything "fairy."It looked like star wars
cities.
I also went to visit for couple of days Konya, Nevisehir, and Adamos.
I went to Kusadasi ( in front of Greece) with exchange students and had a
great time. We stayed there 2 days.
Other than traveling, I followed the same routine everyday during October.
I went to the hotel ( My host dad's hotel) everyday in the morning and
left at midnight. I worked sometimes( whenever I felt like doing something
at the hotel) or just hang around. Go around the town too. Visit my
friends, go have dinner together, go to the beach at night, go to the
bazaars and usual stuff...
But now, the holiday season in Marmaris finished. My host dad's hotel
closed and that means a new life for me is starting...again.
See... this past 8 weeks I've been living in a Hotel & Tourism
environment. Everyday was hotels, all meetings were at big hotels, every
event I attended was tourism related, tourists, russian/english/dutch/german
everyday ,etc. It's a fantastic world. Tho it annoyed me to see so many
tourists around sometimes.
But now, it is time for Marmaris to show me what's the real Turkish
culture here. I'm sure I'm going to love it.
I have deepened my relationship with the locals and new friends and I love
them. We are having FUN! i CAN'T wait for the holiday season to start
again. :D
Other than that, There's of course problems, and things I have to deal
with. But I guess nothing is perfect. I like to be honest. And that's part
of the exchange...
Well that's it so far. Everyday it's a survival adventure or new
interesting experience. sometimes good, sometimes funny, sometimes scary,
sometimes bad. It's Life.
I will write another report soon!
Regards from Turkey to all of you!!
Thank you Rotary 6990! I'm having good times and learning a lot!!!
