Enrico's Report

May 30, 2008

Hey!

How is it going?

A lot of things are happening at the same time. That is why I am writing a report right after the last one.

I have changed to the third and last family as soon as I came back from the big trip, right in the following day. I unpacked a bunch of stuff and then packed everything over. I was like oh man I have to move again, but when I moved... OH MY! I just loved it; I fitted right in and got along with all very well. I felt like I was ever here, I was talking and laughing a lot right in the first day. When you feel this way in a new family it is not all about you, it is also due to how good and happy the family is, which makes you feel comfortable. I have a great host dad, Peter who went to Brazil a couple of times and still goes in regard to his work; an amazing host mom, Sonia; a lucky host brother, Kevin that is an outbound to Italy this year as all of you know and a singer host sister, Nathalie that wakes me up singing loudly sometimes lol. They run the house most likely how my parents do. Now I am going to another church that is really nice as well, and I know a few people in there. I live in such a pretty house and right across the street it is the clear blue Bahamian beach. I am fortunate living here because I have a wonderful life. We are always doing stuff together, having lots of fun and eating a bunch of food. I am telling you man God always puts me in the right family lol!

On the weekend of mother’s day my host family and I went to Nassau for 4 days. That was the third time going to Nassau; I was so excited because I love to go away! Oh come on, who doesn’t? Anyway, I met my host parents’ parents and other relatives. Kevin and I gave out hundreds of flyers, to advertise an airline, around downtown under that strong sun. We went to the mall and to the movies a couple of times, I bought my PROM suit, and we had a delicious lunch on mother’s day. All I can say is that I enjoyed myself! My host parents’ 20th anniversary was last Monday. Then Kevin, Nat and I decided to cook for them. We spent all afternoon rushing, cooking like crazy and laughing. It was so funny; I will certainly never forget that day. I cooked rice and beans, a Brazilian dish. I guess that was a way to thank them for all they have done for me, simultaneously make them happy because they deserve it. I am glad they enjoyed the meal! I do not even like to think that in 3 weeks I will be leaving The Bahamas, it will surely be tough. I love all of them and they will obviously be missed!

In schools over here seniors have the Senior Week, is a week that we have a lot of activities. In my school in particular we had; pimp your uniform day, wacky day, pajama night in Port Lucaya, auction day, slave day, we went to the Bowling Alley, yeah just fun moments! After those things, we had final exams. I did very well and I got a 3.52 final GPA on my report card, which means that I will be graduating in distinction. I am pleased and proud! I was supposed to be finished with everything; however I am taking BGCSE exams just to see how it is, so I am almost. Teachers’ appreciation day was on last Monday, and I was encouraged to pay tribute to all the teachers reading a message that I wrote for them in the assembly, it was cool!

I begged Joe a lot to let Max and I go to the Rotary Conference on April that took place in Miami (thanks again). Fortunately Kevin, Max and I managed to go and again we stayed with John Aquino, the best place to have fun! We did not have much time but those 3 days were sufficient to enjoy ourselves. Right on the first day we went shopping for some cheaper stuff I needed. I do not know where did John get from the idea that it was Mameow’s birthday on that Friday, so we rushed looking for a gift for her right?! When we got in Cindy’s house for the party, it was not her birthday lol! But that is all right because then we gave her the gifts as go away gifts; it was the last time we saw her. The party was so good man! Cindy and her family are fantastic. We ate a looooot (specially the chocolate fountain), met new people, stayed awake late in the night just chilling and laughing on the trampoline, I went to bed stuffed. On the next day we went to the Conference, I met a few Rotarians from my host club in there. We had activities with the out bounds all afternoon; we were helping them in our language because many of them are going to countries that we (inbounds) are from. It was really nice! On that night John, Kevin, Max, Nico and I went to the cinema and unfortunately we left on the following morning.

The most waited trip. Inbounds coming to the Bahamas... We got a very nice group shot, upon their arrival in the airport on a Thursday that came up in the newspaper. That night we had a gathering in David’s house (my 2nd host dad), all exchange students and some Rotarians were there. We danced, ate a lot and chilled! Friday morning David drove us in his boat to Peterson’s Cay, where we spent the afternoon hanging out in the beach. David demonstrated to us how to make the typical conch salad, cracking the conch, cutting it up and seasoning it, boy they ate that up quickly! Moreover, that night we went to Port Lucaya with Steven to have dinner and hang out around with a few students from my school that went there to welcome them. Finally the day reached, Saturday morning we went swim with the dolphins! I was so eager, I could not stop smiling. The dolphins are extremely smart and docile; we even got a shot with them kissing our cheeks man (the chaperone, Ligia bought for all of us, thank you again)! It was a very exciting experience!! Ultimately, at night we went to the Prop Club in Port Lucaya, I cannot go in details but... WE HAD A BLAST!!! Sunday morning came fast and they left. Although the short time, we bust it up, it was perfect!

Couple of days ago Lindsay, outbound to Brazil, arrived back in Freeport. Max and I went to her house to meet her. It is interesting talk to somebody who spent a year in your country. We had dinner over there and even made the Brazilian drink, CAIPIRINHA oh yeah!

Oh my God time has gone faster these days. I soon leave my Bahamas, just three weeks left. But I cannot complain because I just enjoy myself over here. Again THANKS GOES TO ROTARY AND MY PARENTS! THIS OPPORTUNITY IS INDISPENSABLE!

All the best and see you guys soon...

Take care.

Enrico.
