Marit’s
report
Almost two months ago I arrived at the airport of Miami and so far I
can say: I love Florida!
Let me tell you something about my life here; I live in Pembroke Pines
together with a nice family; the Tecoskys. We have two dogs and a
snake as pets and we are living near my high school; Flanagan. My
German school has about 1400 students but Flanagan has about 3500
students and 9 buildings; so in my first week I was lost because I
could not find my classes but there were nice students who helped me.
We just need ten minutes for getting to school. The school system in
Germany is completely different than here: it is much more fun here!
The teachers are really nice and it is more a friendly relationship
between pupils and teachers.
Some
classes were already full so I choose for my first semester following
classes:
Debate -> I love this class; we are doing congress and everyone has to
give speeches about really interesting bills, then we vote for or
against the bill!
Law
studies -> I am interested in this class because when I am grown up
maybe I want to be a lawyer... but I like it :)
American history -> it is really interesting to see the history from
the American view
Pre Calculus ->actually I like math but it is really difficult because
it is a higher level class
For my
next semester I also choose a Spanish class so I hope that I will
learn how to communicate in Spanish!
I really like it that everyone is so nice here and I totally enjoy the
weather!!! At first I was confused that it was so warm outside but
when you go inside (where ever) you are freezing. It is funny; in
Germany you pull on a pullover if you go outside; here you pull on a
pullover if you go inside.
There is just one thing which makes me a little bit sad; I love
playing tennis but the tennis season starts in February and there is
just one girl at my school who plays tennis... I asked the coach if
there are any other guys who are playing tennis and I hope he will
tell me during the next week that he found someone.
It is really cool that everyone who is 16 years or older can drive a
car; in Germany you have to be 18 for being allowed to drive a car all
on your own; but we have good public transportation opportunities so
you do not have to sit at home : )
I have already been to a football game from my high school; it was
sooo cool; like an American movie!!! ( Football is not so famous in
Germany )
And I also have been to the beach two times; I love the beach: it is
so nice there!!!!!
I am looking forward to do the Bahamas trip!!! I think we will have a
lot of fun there!!!!
