If life is what you make it, no others have any influence on your life at
all? If life was purely your own creation or mental apparition there would
be no reason for going on exchange. I dont think that you are only a
product of your own mind because there are others in the world with
powerful mental states as well, which has to project at least somewhat on
their surroundings, influencing those around them. Then what about those
who waste their minds, not questioning or thinking about anything more
meaningful than whatever theyre wearing or their grades in school. Yes,
perhaps these things too are important but only because society values
them. And who makes up society's rules? Probably the same ones enslaved by
it. I wish you could all read this report in my own handwriting. It is
said that handwriting tells alot about ones mental state and personality
if you know how to analyze it. The handwriting of Finns is so careful, so
calculated, so easy to read. Showing they strive to be completly in
control- or are controlled. Even the vast quantity of fake goths in
Finland have the same handwriting. A quantity so vast that they should be
Finland's main product. Their worries and thoughts prove to be the exact
same as their Vero Moda wearing counterparts. If you think Im trying to
make some sweeping generalization about how people are the same
everywhere, you are wrong.
If you think that Im to tell you that you have the power to make your
life what you want it, you right, but not in the traditional way of just
thinking yourself out of a situation or convincing yourself that something
is how you want it in your mind. If you do this youre just brainwashing
youreself and are no better than the corporate industries and society
standards that strive to control youre every thought and action.
But now I suppose you want to hear less about my state of mind and more
about what ive been doing. That is why we write these, isnt it? So since
last time Ive written, ive been getting uesd to finland i guess, getting
closer to my friends and making new ones of couse. Very interesting
people, though impossible to tell you about in a report without again
making sweeping generalizations. We had teh district camp in Vuokatti and
went hiking, and talked about the meaning of live with rotex.
The first snow came, and quite early as well. That was when it was only -1
C out. I tried to go sledding with another exchange student, Mackey, but
either the old landfill which is now a park isnt a very good hill for it
or the boards we took from behind the Euromarket didnt make very good
sleds.
There was a week long fall break from school, syysloma, and I went for a
few days to Helsinki. The main event of that trip was going to Suominlinaa,
an island with swedish forts on it from when sweden occupied finland. Many
many russians in helsinki, which i thought was awesome. Sorry to all in
Helsinki, but I found it kind of overrated. Im now very glad im in oulu.
The buildings are built to look like there from the rennisance when there
only around 100 years old for one thing. For another thing the people are
even cockyer than the ones in oulu, i didnt know that was possible. I
swear its impossible to speak finnish when at the first mispronounciation
or wrong word or hesitation in anwsering the Finn you are speaking with
jumps into english, mostly just to show off their skills. Im going to
pretend i dont understand english i think, becasue ive had it over my head
with this. Its like therye trying to take away my native language, and
make learning theirs a secret club that im not allowed to join.
Anyhow, perhaps this weekend Im going with my hostparents to kuusamo where
their cottage is. Perhaps next monday im going to a rotary meeting.
Perhaps i'll move families in the beginning of next month. Perhaps this
snow will melt before the real snow comes, like so many Finns tell me it
will. Thats a little hard to swollow when its -13 C or so and dark by
4:30, but whatever. Perhaps finland will be taken over by land hungry
countries when global warming gets worse, concidering its landmass is
rising at the same rate that the ocean level is. Perhaps I should learn to
write things in a normal nonsarcastic tone, but i doubt that will happen.
I doubt i will change to project an imange that others are more
comfortable wiOth, sorry. Life is uncertain, but while were here, read
some literature that means something. Come up with your own ideas that
could actully change something. As Karl Marx says ' Working Men of All
Countries, Unite!' And thanks everyone at Rotary for this experience.
Sorry that winter makes me think too much. Good luck, and pictures could
be coming soon. If you want to email, its
