Carlos' Report

March 30, 2007

Seven months has flown by, I can't believe it. Especially after Sea Camp two months has passed by and I didn’t even notice…this experience is flying away from my hands!
Since the beginning of this year I moved to my second family and I enjoy being with them, especially because I have a brother and a sister whom I can talk to.

Last weekend the Grand Bahama Rotarians experienced a sophisticated night at the annual Rotary Ball.

Pelin exchange student from Turkey and I attended to the formal event. We made a huge effort to be well dressed for such important occasion. After our big entrance we made our way to our table at the front of the Ball-room. We had a great evening, first we sold the tickets for a Rotary fundraiser, then we enjoyed the delicious food and finally we rocked the Ball-room until we were falling apart. It was a really nice and fun Rotary Ball.

On Tuesday, 27th I shared my experience of MY Exchange year during the Rotary Club’s weekly meeting. I wasn’t nervous at all, since I enjoy making presentations in front of an audience and this time it was particularly easy because I was talking about actual experiences that I have lived during the last seven months. Everything turned out excellent, I presented a slide show of many pictures of my host families, exchange friends and Bahamian friends and of the many places I had visited, then I presented a documentary of my country Ecuador. I made some jokes of my experience while doing the presentation and even the newspaper quoted that: “Yugcha, while displaying a unique sense of humor, told the Rotarians during their weekly meeting…”
It was so cool to see my face the next morning on the newspaper’s front page…yea…I did first line on the Newspaper…for ironically it sounds I was the news of that day with my name and my funny face on it.

There are a few months left of my exchange year, yet there are a lot of things to do. I’m practically out of school and I want to do some volunteer with the Rotarians in the island. My fellow exchange students are coming on April and on June and July I’ll be traveling around the United Stated on a Rotary Trip…so a lot of things keep me going.

I’ll be reporting any exciting experience that comes my way.
