Bjorn's Report

December 30, 2006

Well, i guess it might be a good idea for em to write another report before i go one my one month trip to northeastern Brasil.

In my last report I left off just after my week long trip to Pantanal/Bonito, so here I go.

After the Pantanal trip I finished my last two weeks of school and had finally made it to summer vaction!!, yup, no school to mid febuary. Shortly after school was my 17 birthday. One the day of my birthday I went to the large mall and had lunch in a nice restaurant with some friends, then when we returned home I walked into the back yard was at shock when I saw all my friends, waiting for me!!! From then one it was nothing but partying and swimming.

Just a  week after my b-day I took a short trip with about 14 other exchange students to Guarda do Embau. It is a Beach located about 40 km south of florinopolis. I must say this beach was one of the most beautiful beaches ive seen in the world.  The beach was located right at the mouth of a river so the water wasn’t crystal clear, but what was amazing was how the river ran right behind the beach, forcing you to take a boat or a swim to even get to the beach. On another small beach, this beach turned out to be the more popular, there was plenty of room for beach soccer, which me a Mexican exhcnage and a german exhcnage and our Rotarian chaperone played against brasilians, and won every single game!! After playing soccer in the heat, we ran up to a small bar right on the beach (which was actually a little boat house some years ago), and colded off with some pastel (braislian food) and refreashments. Well for how beautiful the area was I really wanted to stay long but the trip was only 3 days…well actually five but it take like 15 hours to drive there.

After returning from the trip things went back to normal, except for the fact that I don’t have school. So my days have been full of friends, capoeira, and futebol. From December 15-17 was the 2nd encontro internacional de Capoeira, in other words capoeriaistas from all of the world…literally, Spain, USA, Austria, England, Portugal along with other places in Brasil came to my city and held rodas throughout the city, a roda is a circle of people with people playing instruments for capoeira and two people fighting in the middle. They were held in the downtown shopping district, right off the main street (its not called main street), and in an amphtheater. I was able to fight in all the rodas, and in the final one I received my first belt for capoeira!!,

As another week went by, it was getting closer to x-mas time but man it didn’t feel like it, not only was it getting really hot but the only building with really beautiful x-mas decorations burnt down, not joking, the people most of but 1000$ into the decorations and they didn’t last to even2 weeks before x-mas. Well finally when it was the 23rd my host mom finally dicided to but out the x-mas tree, so I wne tinto my room and grabbed a little ornimant my mom in America gave me for my x-mas tree here, it was a melted snowman and it said florida snowman.. btu man was I thinking it should have said florida/brasilian, cause I don’t think this heat is going away any time soon.

Well the day of x-mas eve came and my host mom said nobody would be coming over till 7pm, so I go out with friends for the day, as times rolling by I finally realized it was already 8pm so I rushed home and to my thought nobady was there, the first person didn’t come till about 10 15pm. I must say though once all the family members were here it was a fun ngiht, right at midnight we all held hand sand the said a prayer and after everyone hugged everyone, that took awhile considering there was about 40 people over. Then we opened gifts, I recived a pillow with a brasilian flag on it and a cup for caparinhas….(no comment on what that is). The party finally ended at around 4am, well that’s when the last person left, so with my fashion I went to bed at around 6am.

On x-mas day I was woken up at around 2pm by the sounds of little kids running through the house and jumping into the pool. So I walked out of my room and saw everyone had returned for another party, which was cool cause I could go swimming!!,

Well that about sums up this last month and a half, don’t want to bore u anymore with my bad writing skills and what not so..

Hope everyone is doing great!!

All of January I will be headed to the northeastern parts of brasil, so after that I will have another lengthy report ahahah,

Abraços e beijos

Boa sorte para tudos
