The French Cuisine

OUI!! The subject that I have been dying to tell you about. French Cuisine, one of the healthiest foods on earth. As a result of eating it I have lost a few pounds already!! (Roy, I don’t think I am apart of that percentage that you explained to me). Indeed, I believe that it is the food here that is extremely different from that of the Bahamas/America, and so has been the most culturally diverse thing that I have come across.

France, the home of cheeses, flakey, melt-in-your mouth bread, and wine. Yet it is also the home of some of my now favorite foods, the croissant and the quiche. The quiche is like a pie with ham and cheese in the middle (really good). I have also tasted some interesting Indian food, lapin (rabbit), raw meat with only olive oil and parmesan cheese on top (I was not too fond of that though), Spetzal (a noodle made in Alsace- really good) and carrot soup. Every dish is served with bread, cheese and a glass of water.

However, the thing that really astonished me about eating here is that you MUST eat. No question, it is considered rude if you don’t try the food placed in front of you. Also, you eat three meals a day. Here, breakfast is not considered the most important meal of the day, yet lunch is. In the mornings you can have a cereal, toast or a fruit (nothing heavier). In the afternoons you have your main meal consisting of meat etc. In the evenings, however, meat is rarely served. Here in France, you eat lightly in the evenings. Honestly, it makes sense scientifically, because in the evenings you don’t have much time to digest your food if you eat at 8:00pm and go to bed at 10:00pm (so I see why Bahamians and Americans gain so much weight :p – I think we should maintain a French Diet).

Moreover, even the food at school is good. The menu can consist of shrimp, clams, lasagna, etc., yet changes every week. With each meal you have a choice of a fruit, yogurt, a salad, light entrees/appetizers, and a dessert. Très Bien!! Nevertheless, life is tasty; I am eating well and enjoying every bite.
