Conny's Second Report

March  1, 2006

Hello everybody,

Some month have passed by since my last report and I want to apologize for that, but I am just having such a good time, that I forgot about it….

But finally here it is :-) Wow, where should I start?  Christmas: me and my hostfamily went to Nashville for the  Holidays because my Hostfamilys daughter lives there. I did not really know what to expect, because everbody I told that I am going to Nashville, was laughing and just said: haha, have fun. But when we arrived there I couldn’t understand why, the people were friendly, everthing was different-but in a refreshing way  And I loved the cold weather, one reason was because it reminded me of Germany and another reason was, that I finally got to wear my nice new Hollister-sweatshirts.. lol! We did a lot during the short period of time we spend in Nashville. I got to see the country-music hall of fame and the grand old opry, I found that quite amusing, because there were the funniest looking people :-). Oh and the best about my whole Nashville-experience was definitely the hotel we were staying at. We had a suite, and that was just awesome.

Christmas was really different for me here, because in Germany you open the presents on Christmas eve and not on the 25th, and everybody that knows me, knows that I do not have a lot of patience.

On Christmas eve, after a delicious dinner at the hotel, we (my hostparents, their daughter Jessica, her friend Hannah and me) went to the movies and watched “familystone”. It was not quite what we expected, so my Hostdad felt asleep during the movie, eventhough he always denies it afterwards (haha, I love you bob) I really thought that was a perfect Christmas, and I have build such a good relationship with my hostparents, that it is going to be really hard to leave!

In the end of January, we all (the exchange students out of 6990 and the ES  From Jacksonville) went to seacamp, and that was just AWESOME. We lived in little cabins with little matrasses out of plastic that drove me crazy :-)  We went out on boats, everybody had their own wetsuit (the water was freeeezing), so then they let us go snorkeling and I was so proud when I  thought I caught a jellyfish in my net and I told everybody, but then after I  swam back to the boat, with a big smile on my face, they were applauding  and said: “good job conny, you caught a plasticbag!”  My roommates at seacamp were another experience. I was sharing a room with two really nice girls from Michigan. But at night I found out why nobody else wanted to stay in this room: Because they were snoring like elephants! I tried everything, a pillow on my head, cotton wool in my ears and I even tried to roll her around! Well, at least I really enjoyed the DAYS at seacamp.

Another weekend my hostfamily and me went down to the keys, and they  surprised me with a “dolphin-swim” for me. I think that was about the coolest thing I have ever done in my entire life!!!:) The weather was excellent and at first the people who work there told us basic things about dolphins, like you can not touch their stomach or back fin, after all the basic stuff I finally got to go into the water with the dolphins!!! I was so excited, the dolphins were pulling and  pushing me around, I was patting their back and even had a spitfight with them, for the next two hours after that I had a big smile on my face (I still do :-) )

Weeeell, what else is new? The last weekend was the first outbound orientation and it was great to get to know all of them( I am so proud of me, I still remember all the names). That was a really fun weekend. Javier (outbound 03/04) was there and he brought his surfboards, so Lorina, Belen, him and me went to the beach and he tried to teach us how to surf. That was really cool and I always  wanted to learn that, but it was tougher than I thought. Lorina was the first  (and only!) one standing on the surfboard, after that Belen and me tried, and  that is not even worth writing about it;) But we had a great time! Wow, that’s hard to believe, it is already March and in 4 month I am going home, I can not believe it, time has been passing by so fast and I feel more and more home. My hostfamily is great (they were from the beginning) and school is fun, the people are nice and I find more and more friends everyday, but the best thing about school is, that Belen has changed schools, so now we are Both attending Douglas and we have the best time together. She is as crazy as I  am and everyday is awesome and just so much fun!
