Salut!
I
was going to just update on what I’d been up to, but I found it so long
that decided to make it several reports. I find the days flying by but i
have only been here a month! I do so much during one day that I process it
as been more than one. So here
is my second report starting back to the middle September:
Several
weekends ago the family and I spend the weekend in Rennes, a big town an
hour away from us. Saturday we
went shopping in downtown and we saw a photo exposition in the Maire’s
plaza. Rennes is great!!
It’s a historic town in Bretagne, and has a total different feeling to
it. Bretagne is a special
place, because not only do they speak French, but they speak Breton- a
form of Celtic! Rennes is also a college town; the stores were filled with
college student and families alike. We
went into a store and Norbert bought me a t-shirt that in the front had
written in Celtic I'm cool in Bretagne, and in the back a cow waving with
its tail…I love it, I think its hilarious, because in Chalons, where I
live now, there’s a lot cows. -Maybe is funnier when u see it :-/ -
I need to point out that I was freezing.
Autumn started, so that morning was 15*C!!!! If you saw me on the
second orientation -the campout- cold and I are never Seeing Eye to Eye.
I had on 2 shirts, a turtleneck, mid-thigh long jacket, a beanie,
thick scarf, thick socks, and gloves, and I was still cold!!!
My family was laughing so hard and kindly reminded me that it only
gets worst :-S. Norbert,
Pascale, and me (1st host parents) stayed in papi’s and
mami’s (my grandparents- don’t know their real names :-S)
apartment in Rennes, while the kids stayed with them in their house on the
countryside.
Sunday it was my first meeting with all RYE
students in my district (D.1650)! There is 24 of us here; 2 girls from
Canada, 4 students from Mexico, 1 guy from Bolivia, and the others are
from everywhere in the USA. It
was awesome! At first, we were all trying to figure out what language to
speak – English or French- and it ended been a bizarre combination.
If spanglish sounds creepy to some of you, wait until u hear...
frenglish? :-S We all
exchanged cards and pins, and I must admit I never thought it was going to
be that exciting
J
. When I had
finished exchanging, my blazer weighted an extra 10 pounds :-D lol!
Now, I have tried so many different foods I
couldn’t write them all. From
pâté, of all kinds of stuff, to the most delicious desserts.
I most say it most have been all my prayers for an open mind or all
of Roy’s talks that I must try EVERYTHING that’s put on my plate, but
I have not been disappointed. The
food, as long as I don’t think what it is, has been amazing.
Going back to the meeting, that entire intro was to say that for
lunch we had stingray. Yep, stingray.
I didn’t even know you could eat them!
I must admit that it isn’t my favorite dish.
It’s not horrible, although I chocked the moment they told me,
but it’s just….. :: lack of term:: try it and u tell me ;-p
The lunch ended and we all got into our cars with smiling faces, and
telling our families how cool that kid was or how strange it felt to speak
english again. I got to say
life is rocking here and my districts RYEs are sweet.
Hope all is going great in Miami,
Amitié,
Yireh
