Sonjas' Second Report

March 17, 2006

Hey,

It is exact seven month ago that I filed me first report and now I cannot tell about all the fantastic things that happened to me since then.

Well, I’ m so busy here in the Keys (even when I was in Big Pine believe it or not) that I just couldn’t find the time to write.

I will just start with Seacamp at the end of January. Seacamp was really interesting but also really cold for the Keys so do not believe that it is always so cold. It was really nice to have all the exchange students down here and I think everybody had fun snorkeling and in Key West .

In January I also participated in All District Honor Band where selected Band students represent their schools. It was really interesting but also hard but the results where really good. In February I participated in a program like that Monroe County Honor Band. It is the same the only different is that there are only students from the Keys while there are students from Miami at All District.

At the end of February I moved to me third and last host family the Greenmans. My second host family lived in Big Pine that is another Key and about 20 minutes away from Marathon . My Rotary Club is located in Marathon where I go to school and most of my friends live. The Greenmans (Suzie’s family) are really nice and I am enjoying myself. Suzie as you all know is in Germany and so only here younger sister Kate (16) and her parents Frank and Judy are living here. Ok, at the moment Kelley (18) together with two friends is home from college.

I also like to work together with the Rotary Club and be a member of the InterAct club.

In January the InterAct club had a really big fund raiser. We raised nearly $10 000 for aids orphans in Kenya . It was a big Turkey Dinner that we actual planned in October but hurricane Wilma hit and the dinner was canceled. We hold it three month later and it was nevertheless (who likes to eat a Thanksgiving Dinner in January) surprisingly big.

What was next.? Yes, the 1. Outbound orientation but I could not participate because I was to busy. On the Saturday I moved but the mean reason was the Sunday. The Rotary Club of Marathon had his annual Benefit Big Band Concert and the club asks me if I would like to play together with some friends a little bit Jazz. I never played Jazz before (flute is not really built for that) but after a month of practice after school it was really good. Of course I was sad to miss the orientation and to meet all the new Outbounds but this day was marked since about to month in me calendar.

Now to the rest of me life.

Since I moved back to Marathon the school is just 5 minutes away (walk) and the beach is also really close. The school is going really easy for me and I’m enjoying it as much as possible.

Last weekend we went out by boat and it was really relaxing to be out the ocean and the gulf of mexico . The water is already warmer and it is much easier to go swimming without wet suits or to go water skiing.

I am really sad that the last quarter of school started this week but the end of my year here will become a lot of fun. I will participate in an Eastern States Tour. I will visit Washington , NY City and Boston .  I will meet many other exchange students from different districts.

I am sad that the best year of my life will be over in about three to four months but I am really happy that I had the possibility to have such wonderful (and sunny) year.

Nevertheless I am not looking back at the moment because the year is not over yet.

I hope you are doing good wherever you are and have a great year. I hope that I will more time to write another report soon.
