Nelson's Second Report

September 23, 2005

Well its been a month and some days so here goes No.2 . . .

First thing I would like to bring up is that I have not had the chance to hit homesick for a second. And there I was, months prior thinking nonstop about how homesick I would be. Don’t get me wrong, I miss everyone deeply, but its just I’m literally living life to the fullest.

Well as you know this is No.2 of my yet to finish saga. Everything has been going great. I started school a little more than two weeks ago. School is much more than I expected it would be. Everyday school starts at 8:30 and ends around 16:00 [due to “Souji” (cleaning)]. Oh but of course, it seems real nice to start at 8:30, but its hell. My host parents expect me to get up at 6:00, get ready (this consists of brushing my teeth and getting dressed and what not), later come downstairs by 6:30 and eat anything for breakfast. Followed by an about 30min-wait for the bus to come near my house, in order to take this bus to “Oppama Station”. From the station I take the train to “Yokosuka Chuou Stattion”. Finally I walk from the station to the school, which is about a 15min to 20min walk.

In school as well as outside of school I am a celebrity. No matter where I go it’s the same feeling. During school hours girls whom I have yet to know their names come to my class, as far as that may be, just to see me and try to have some sort of conversation with me. As well as, the thousands of times they shout “kawaii” (this is the equivalent of the English “cute” and/or “charming; fashionable”) without no type of shame whatsoever, at the top of their lungs. During class all the girls come to my side of the room and literally surround me. Nonetheless, they ask for my number and cell phone e-mail address. It’s quite unusual most of the times because several of these fanatics have boyfriends, but spend no time with them to spend it with me and the Battalion of females. Numerous girls have even got to say “I Love You” in very bad but comprehensible English, since day one of my commencing school.

As for outside of school it’s the same sensation. Everyone turns to look at me as random girls in groups’ converse amongst themselves about me. In Japan , school is real easy. All you have to do is attend and you’re completely fine. They earn about 13 credits a year, and don’t even have to pass the class. There is no such thing as having to repeat a grade. Failing simply does not exist, regardless if they do the work or not. I LOVE THAT ! ! ! If only Florida followed the same regulation, it would be Heaven back home. Even though I really don’t have to do anything but attend school regularly, I still get involved with the majority of the lessons to better understand Japanese. My Japanese has been getting great; it is fascinating how well I understand Japanese in such a short amount of time here.

I think that’s good for now

Until the next . . .

P.S, I miss you all, I wish nothing but the best for everyone, and I am having a blast

Much Love from Japan
