Lorina's Second Report

October 8, 2005

Hey you all!

The second month of my exchange is over so its time for my second report.  Much changed since the last one:

Danielle left for Italy so I have my one room, but I miss her, because I could talk with her about almost everything and she could understand me and now my host brother can only tease on me :-)

School started the 5th September. The first day I was so nervous that I couldn’t sleep all night, but it wasn’t as bad as I had imagined. Everybody is nice to me and I knew where everything was very fast because the school is very small. I can understand the teachers pretty good (although some are from Jamaica ) but some of the other students are hard to understand. I still don’t like the uniform because I don’t feel like myself when I’m wearing it. Everything is much slower than I am used to. Also making friends goes slowly but I think that’s my fault because I don’t talk enough. I have a different schedule every day but always till 3 o’clock .

Once a week there is a Interact Club meeting. Our club is really big, 45-50 students! (The whole High School has only 150 students…) We already made a “dress-up-day” which means that you can wear normal clothes if you pay one dollar. School was so much better that day! With the money we want to help the Children’s home.

I also started to take dance classes twice a week. There’s a small Dance-Academy near my home and it’s much fun, especially because one class is taught by my future host sister.

On the weekends we go to the beach, swimming and snorkeling sometimes, LUXURY!

Of course there was the District Conference and the weekend in Orlando . I haven’t had so much fun for a long time! It felt like one big family. Thank you all again!!

Last weekend I went to Nassau for my host Grandma’s 70th birthday. I met the whole family and everybody was very nice to me. The city looks almost like Freeport only bigger with more traffic and some hills. We visited Atlantis, a very big hotel. The special thing about it are the fish tanks. They are like big aquariums where you can see sharks, swordfish and all the different stuff. That was amazing! You really feel like you was in the sea.

One night I went to a Soca-Concert with my host cousin. I didn’t know the artists, but I liked it. The Bahamian music makes you happy!!

Time goes by so fast and I can’t believe that I’m here for two months already. It begins to feel like normal life and not like vacation. I had my first dream in English and my diary is a funny mix of English and German at the moment. When I talk with my parents on the phone it really sounds strange to me. I don’t really miss my family, sometimes I just feel bad because I know almost nothing about what they are doing.

I am doing fine so far….

…and I am still happy every morning that the sun is shining.
