Lorina is Home for a Year!

July 11, 2007

Hello everybody!!

I know it's been way too long that you haven't heard from me. I'm so sorry.
I'm back home for one year now. A next generation of exchange students has come and gone. I hope it was a good experience for all of you and they enjoyed their time as much as I did.

My time back home was pretty exciting too. I couldn't tell what was better, the exchange or the year after that. Time is going by so quickly and so much is happening.

I finished grade 12, right now I'm off school for summer for 6 weeks. It's my last summer break that feels a bit strange. Next year (grade 13) is my last year in school and I will be graduating around may. I hope it won't be too hard, but so far i really can't complain. Even though I missed a whole year my grades are pretty good. I got all the courses I wanted and it's mostly fun. I took some extra english classes and a couple weeks ago i took part in the Cambridge Advanced English Examination. That certificate is accepted by most universities and would make it much easier for me to study abroad. I don't have the results yet but I really hope I passed it.

I try to talk english as much as i can but I still feel that I'm getting worse. Sometimes I listen to bahamian radio but that makes me feel even worse because it's so hard to understand. :)

I've been looking at universities already. I might study musicology or something like arts/media and management. I have to start applying soon. In the former east part of Germany universities are still for free, everywhere else there are fees around 1000€ per year since last year. Everybody is complaining about it, it's been so much trouble about that.

My summer has not been too exciting so far. It's the first time in ages that I have a lot of free time and I'm already getting bored haha. The weather is kind of bad. It has been cold and rainy, that makes it so much worse. And I'm not even going away in the sun. I just went to see my Dad for a week. I took two friends and we had a great time. Now I'm trying to work as much as I can.

I started working as a waitress in a little restaurant a couple month ago, usually once or twice a week. It's a good way to earn some money. I like it there, even my boss is nice. I just have to watch out that school and work is not getting too much. But next grade I'll have a couple classes less.

I finally got my license!! I think everything that could possibly go wrong with that went wrong, I failed the driving test twice, wasted so much money and time but anyway. Now I'm driving:)

Besides all that I still play double bass. I got my own instrument a while ago and my own bow last week. I really love it. My friends say my bass is like my boyfriend :)
There's always a lot to do, I'm really happy with my friends, we're really close. I think everything is fine with me.

What I miss most about the Bahamas is the sun and the sea but also that people know how to relax.

I really hope all of you are doing fine!
I'd love to hear from you!
Take care, Be safe
Love, Lorina
