Catherine Celebrates Faschings

March 1, 2006

Hello!
How is everyone doing? Last weekend my host family and I were in Julich, a small city near Düsseldorf. We went there to celebrate faschings, carneval. It was my host uncles house and they were very nice with me, since i had never met them before.

We arrived there on Saturday in the afternoon and since it was a very nice bright day we decided to make a walk to the worlds largest coal mining pit. (well they said it was ) and yes indeed was that coal pit very but very large. They said that in the year 2030 the coal would be finished and that they (referring to the city) would make the pit a small sea... interesting no? they would bring the water from the Rheine river by making  canals. In the watch tower spot it was very windy and cold. But the view was wonderful.

To get there we had to cross 3 mountains and it took like 2 hours or so... but it was very fun.. During the time going through the mountains there was a spot that was completely with torn down trees... so what did have to do... go through there. of course... what else could i do and that means that in the hurry of crossing a stick went on the side of my leg and until today i was a very blue bruise on the side of my right leg.-..... which for me is not really a problem..When we came back it was already sundown and it was a wonderful feeling to see the bright red sun.... I had not seen it in a long time since in my town most of the days it is dark or cloudy.

Then on Sunday we spent the whole day in the parade and i had done a self made mask and  i was supposedly an it.... cause there is really no name to what i was.  and so we had to stand there and see the large trucktors with decorations and say kamela or something like that. i am not very sure of the spelling... and so we would receive tons of candy. I felt like in Halloween only that it was during the day and not at night.

That was my last weekend... then this weekend there is a Rotex weekend and i will be able to see John because it deals with the Europa Tour that we will make...(though he is in the other tour-east)
Other than that it has been the same in my small town... today i will got to church and for the moment i am alittle sick, only of my nose and throught and typical winter sickness...

And well it snowed again today! it was so beautiful, this time it snowed alot and well i felt like in the fairy tells in a small town and everything.... it was very nice. Thank you Rotary  for this experience and for doing everything possible in order for me to be here....

Gold bless You!
sincerely,
Cathy
