Public Baths, Sake, & The Red Dragonfly Song

October 12, 2004

Wooh! I'm still having a great time in Japan. Last week, I went to a Rotary function for two days. On that Saturday, I went to a museum and zoo, with Nishijima's wife (Nishijima is a head Rotarian) and her friends while the other Rotarians had to go to a meeting. That night, we slept in a hotel that had a public bath. I went... I'm willing to do it again, but I wish the company was better. It was separated by sex, but it didn't make it that much better.

That night, we had a banquet and I had my usual glass of tea while the adults had their alcohol. You know how restaurants have a default glass of water in a little goblet for you? I though that's what I had, when my tea was done, but it was really sake! My face was totally hot. Later that night, when Nishijima's wife and I went to this mini-mall called Jusco (I love that place!) it was apparently cold because I could see my breath, but I was totally warm from the sake.

Nishijima and I had fun at the arcade and she won two stuffed animals for me. They are super cute and I thanked her a lot. Her and her husband really make sure I have a good time when I'm around, and Nishijima even bought me some bite-sized rock candy earlier that day. It was a good night, and before I went to bed I watch Titanic in Japanese, which was interesting and good to study from.

The next day I met up with the exchange students and we had to memorize some song called "Aka Tonbo" which means "The Red Dragonfly." We all had fun and I got a hug again! That's something that never happens at school or home. Also, I got more pins for my blazer. That day was a lot of memorization and listening to a lot of lectures about the memorization, but us exchange students had a good time anyways.

The next day, Monday, was a Rotary meeting. I had to do a speech about that weekend, I got my allowance, and I did the sleepers count. This week, it was 10 out of 27. The next day, I stayed home from school cause I was sick. I barely had sleep that weekend. It was great. :D

Friday was a good day. The marathon was cancelled, and then they (the teachers or something) decided to cancel it for the year. I'm VERY lucky and EXTREMELY happy. Also, I asserted myself a bit more. I think I'm finally making some guy friends! Wow!

Anyways, this weekend I didn't do anything except stay home and draw. But, on Friday, my host parents got a call from my friend Kaio's parents and they invited me to go the alps. It was quite a random call. I'm very happy I was thought of, especially by Kaio cause she's cool, but quiet... Unlike me... Today, I really noticed that I've got some good friends. Mizuna bought some cookies for me, and Fumina gave me some pumpkin muffins she made. I shared my rock candy that Nishijima gave me last weekend.

I love this place. It's so small and nice. Here's a fun fact: Fumina and my homeroom teacher is Izawa-sensei and we are counseled by Asazawa-sensei, who are both Rotarians, and Fumina's brother, Yoichi works for Nishijima... I live with Yuki's parents, and his dad works with the Y.E.O. Yamada, and my Rotary counselor Goto. Small town filled with Rotarians. I thought it was very interesting... See ya!
