News from Japan

Semptember 10, 2004

Hey! I've been here 3 weeks... Whoo hoo!
No pictures today. Apparently at school, we had to do Tuesday's schedule. I got to go against Fumina in judo. That was fun. I've been really happy and carefree even though:
I felt 2/4 earthquakes (I felt the first, slept through the second, was on the train- which is already shaky- during the third, and felt the latest one in the English/Japanese Teachers' Room)
There may be another typhoon coming
There's been a 2nd murder in our small town. The news site I go to for my Japanese news Mainichi Interactive (http://mdn.mainichi.co.jp/news/archive/200409/09/20040909p2a00m0dm002000c.html)pretty much explains it all.
Since our town is REALLY small, the adults have been having a cow, and during lunch today, they called all the girls to the chemistry room and gave us a little flyer on safety,
and then after lunch my friend Kaio (the one who has the knife dangling off her pants) took me downstairs and some guys from the AV room asked me if I wanted to be in their safety video.
I said yes. The things I do for nothing...
Tomorrow, is going to be my first Rotary event where I get to meet the other exchange students. I've only been to my own reception, and 2 meetings... And the meetings are quite fun.
I say hi, eat, make a speech, and get my 10,000 yen. Then there's some really long boring speech that someone has to do, in which I keep myself awake by looking around and count: how many people are present, and how many people are awake. The first time was 19/39 and last time was 13/33. I showed this to Tanaka and he cracked up, and wrote the numbers down.
And we expected better from Rotary.
Anyways, I met my sister Akiko and tonight I'm gonna meet my brother Kouki. I'm going to take minbu class again tonight, which means I'm going to miss Alien Ressurection on BS2. Every night they play English movies subtitled in Japanese, and they play sequels the next night. I like the channels, and my host parents get a kick out of the movies they play, but the Addams Family kind of confused them. Oh well.
 As long as we're happy.
