Sabrina Gets A Comfortable Host Family

January 18, 2005

Hey hey!
Sorry for the long wait for a new update, but I've just changed host families, so I had to get myself together and such. But now, I have time, at last to report a lot of stuff. :)
How were everyone's holdiays? Christmas was okay, and New Years was cool too.
Us exchange students had a Christmas party, the week before the actual holiday at a super-duper, up-in-the-mountains, fancy, The Shining type hotel where there was some snow outside. We played some games and ate little tiny dishes of all sorts of Japanese food for 3-hours, till we were finally stuffed.
There were some outbounds there and one of them wants to go to Florida, which made me really happy.
Anyways, after all the eating, we were supposed to go to our rooms, but Eduardo and I had never seen snow at the time, so we and the other inbounds went out and wandered around the mountain and snow-fought till about 11pm. We went back, swapped some stories and played card games. It was cool. We didn't go to bed till 3 in the morning.
The next day we dropped by a temple and got some fortunes. One rebound and I both got unlucky numbers from our own cultures: I got #13, and she got #4. (shi, the word for 4 is a hononym with the word for death)
Christmas was okay. I went over to some lady's house, named Sumiko and spent time with her and her son. He was nice and he goes to Fuuetsu, which is the school I want to go to.
He was cool and wasn't shy and we talked and stuff, and in that one night, he talked to me more than all of the boys in my class have talked to me put together. Sad, huh?
The next day I went to karaoke and I went to a recital where I saw my friend Oba sing. He's another boy who talks to me, and he gave me tickets for the recital, which was super nice cause I've got too much free-time.
And it finally snowed on the 28th or 29th, and it was really pretty cause I've never seen snow and it was just so... white.
New Years is a big deal here. We had A LOT of food and watched TV till about 1am and the next day we didn't do much, but on the 3rd, we went to the temple, and I got to ring the bell, and I bought a Daruma doll.
It's a little red doll of a head and it's only white in their eyes, and what you kinda make a deal with it. You paint it's eye and makes a wish. If the wish comes true, you finish your end of the bargin and paint the other eye.
I haven't painted mine yet, cause I'm just bad that way.
Well, let's fast foward, cause all I did around that time was hang out with Yuki's sister Akiko and watch some horror movies and then Babe 1 & 2. I finally changed host families, and I do declare that they are quite comfortable, and when I mean comfortable, I mean the people have got an elevator in their house.
Yes yes. An elevator.
I used to pass bytheir house on the way to school and I thought it was an apartment building, but no no. It's just one family: The Katagiris.
There's not much I can say now about them, except that they own the clothing section of a popular department store called Perss. There's my "grandpa" who is a Rotarian, my "grandma," who has white and purple hair, my "mom and dad," my 5 year old "brother" and an 8 year old "sister."
The first night I was with them, we talked about Florida, America and then Disney Land and they asked me if I wanted to go and I said "sure," cause I'd be lying if I said no, and that very weekend, we went.
It rained, but we had lots of fun and I got to see Tokyo Tower for a bit on the highway. Any fan of animes and stuff like that would kill to see it cause it's like the Eiffel Tower of Japan, and it always seems to get blown up in animes, manga, and any other form entertainment.
Well, that's all I have to share so far. School is boring and I hate it, but I deal and just wait till I get home so I can play with my host siblings and watch some Deka Ranger.
Peace!
