Hello everyone! The village where I live is a summer place where everybody from Pécs comes to see the view because Orfû is situated on the hills and its beautiful, it has four artificial lakes where people go swimming and also fish, but it is already cold so nobody comes, and during the winter it freezes so people come to ice skate. Since Orfû is surrounded by forest you can see all the leaves on the trees change colors, some are bright red, its wonderful. My host brother took me to a cave in Orfû, it was very interesting because I had never been in a cave before.
Instead the city where I go to school and will live in when I change host families is very beautiful, in the center of it there is a Catholic mosque, which is very interesting because a long time ago it used to be a catholic church, then the Turks took over the country so they destroyed it and built a mosque, after the Turks left they remade it a Catholic church, shaped like a mosque.
A couple weekends ago, I went to Budapest, it was really nice because the city is split into two parts, and there are historical buildings on each side, on Buda there is the Castle which sits on a hill overlooking the Danube river, on the other side there is the parliament, which is also really close to the Danube.
The capital is huge compared to the city where i go to school. Since my host brother Tom, goes to the University in Budapest, he has a flat there and comes to visit every weekend, that time I came up to visit him.
Since I live in a little village it is starting to get cold here, so I helped my host family gather the wood for the winter, it is definitely a change from turning on the AC in Florida! I also got a chance to light the fire myself, since there is also a fireplace in the living room, but I couldn't light it! its too hard.
I also attempted cutting the wood too! the first tries, I cut more the cement than the wood, but now I am getting better at it, and I enjoy cutting the wood! I am starting to understand a bit more of the language, I catch a few words, and can decipher a couple of sentences, but its hard work.
Last weekend I went to Szeged, which is another city in Hungary about a four hour drive on the bus, there was a Rotary club get together for the Rotarians, I saw some of the sites too, but I was there for only one day.
There is a Rotary club meeting with my city on the first Tuesday of the month which I am obliged to go to, its also when they give me my monthly allowance, this rotary club does not allow any women to be in it, and they enjoy themselves a lot. This past Tuesday's meeting we gathered in a small village also close to Pécs, and we ate a whole pig! it was really good and they also drank a lot of wine and beers, and a Hungarian drink called palinka.
On the 16th of this month I will go to Venice with the rotary club of Hungary, so we will be about 27 going around the city! I am really excited to go back there again! we will stay for the weekend, they are taking us by bus. Unfortunately I am the only Rotary club student in my city, which is very rare.
School is very boring because all I do is warm the seat, I just sit there, but I don't want to fall asleep because that would be disrespectable, but the music lessons are luckily in English, so there is something I can understand. My schedule is really different from the one in America, I can leave whenever I want to, everyday I finish at a different time, the school is really nice but I haven't made any good friends yet.
My host mother attempted to make pasta for me a couple days ago, it tasted very different from what I am used to, its funny because she had no idea how to make it, she needed a cookbook, but I ate it all because she is so caring and nice to want to make pasta for me. Next time I think I will try to make it.
I have already been here for about a month, and the time has flown by!
I have to go, Viszlat! |
