Hello everyone!
sorry for making the report so late,
so many things have happened since the last
report. Well unfortunately I didn't go to France for skiing, because the
Rotary club didn't allow me, but the next host family will take me
themselves to Austria though.
It finally really snowed here! and it is so fun to
play in the snow! me and my school friends had snow fights and went
sledding too! it was so fun! I wasn't expecting it because on December
and January it didn't snow at all!
not too long ago there was the "Szalagavato"
which is graduation for the seniors at my school, it was really fun
especially because after that we went to a ball and it was great, I
learned how to dance like a Hungarian! its so fun.
After that I went with my host family to the
busojaras which takes place in Mohacs, it portrays when there were the
Turks in Hungary and the Hungarians reconquered back their land, it all
started in mohacs, when the villagers dressed themselves in demon
costumes which consisted of a wooden mask and goat's fur, and then ran
to the unsuspecting Turks, the turks fell for it and ran away.
i was there with my family and it was a great big
party which took place in the whole city! people were eating outside
then there were shows too, but it was really cold though.
The last weekend was my birthday and
coincidentally there was also a rotary field trip to Kecskemét where
the "disznovagas" took place, it literally means, pig cutting.
In Hungary there is an old tradition that the hole village would gather
and kill a big and healthy pig in the morning and celebrate throughout
the day by eating and drinking and eating and drinking... well it was
really fun because we got there on Friday night, and since it was late
we went directly to the dormitory to sleep for the night, then on the
following morning we all woke up at 6 o clock and went to the
puszta, farm. Unfortunately or rather fortunately we weren't able to see
them kill the pig in front of us, we all arrived too late, (should i be
thankful or not?). Then we ate some meat for lunch and went out to enjoy
the day, we started by drinking Palinka (strong Hungarian drink) and
moved onto seeing all the animals in the farm, we saw some goats that
only existed in Hungary and then later we went horse sleigh riding which
was extremely fun! the only problem was that I decided to sit up
front and so there was ice being kicked at me by the horse's legs, im
thankful that the horse didn't take a crap and kick that!
after that we went to play a type of bowling, then
some billiard.
The day ended with us watching an original Hungarian
horse man show, which was great. It showed us how they used the whips
and then one guy guided like 5 horses while standing on their backs it
was really great!
I don't know why but my stomach was hurting really
bad and so I didn't eat any more of the pig at dinner time.
Since it was my birthday all the exchange students
celebrated with me throughout the whole weekend, it was the best
birthday ever! I even got whipped 17 times by my Ecuadorian
friend...he says its tradition but maybe he was just a little angry...
Next weekend will be the Farsang which is when all
the exchange students go to meet and give a show about their
country, im a bit nervous, but i've had an idea of going dressed up as a
cowboy. im sure it will be fun!
see you all soon, miss you tons
