Marco Tells Us About His Break!

January 4,  2005

Where to begin,
well my Christmas was great, my host family had invited many guests and in total we were 13 people, everybody received many gifts, and there was a great dinner with all sorts of different dishes, the most "exotic dish" I found so far is jello soup, where the meat and carrots are suspended in a gelatinous matter that has no color, and you eat it cold, I tried it and it wasnt too bad, but not something I would be eating often. Over the break I invited some of my friends from the rotary club since i am the only one in Pécs, and the closest one to me lives in Budapest!!!!!!!!!! I showed them around the city and later we went up to Budapest which is about two hours and 45 minutes away on an intercity train, for a ticket that costs about five dollars! we and some other exchangees met and went together bowling at "Mammut" which is a big mall in Budapest.
Unfortunately since the Hungarian Rotary Club is rather unorganized, they were having problems so the trip to Vienna was cancelled.
There was a get together for all the rotary students in szolnok where Lloyd, the South African decided to host a party for the new year, it was a lot of fun and its always great to see my friends because i live so far away from all of them, we all ate goulash for dinner and it tasted great.
Since I am the only Rotary student in Pécs a lot of host families would like to host me for some time, I've already changed once and soon I might change again because they might want to split this quarter in half, the funny thing is that my next host family lives across the street, right in front of this house!
At the end of the month I will go skiing in France with my first host brother and a bunch of his friends, it will be the first time I go skiing so i will have to get lessons while I'm there, but other than that I am really looking forward to going.
I have made such good friends with the inbounds, much more than I could ever believe, and the sad thing is that most of them live so far away from me
that I dont think I will ever be able to see them again.
I can feel my hungarian is coming along just fine, a bit slowly but I notice the improvements.
School started for me yesterday on the 3rd, its horrible! I dont feel like going! on the 8th I will be playing at the new year's concert at my school and my whole rotary club of my city will be there! I'm just a little worried!
I miss the warm weather and definitely the beach! but I want to enjoy every moment that I have here in this beautiful country.
write to you all soon!
ciao!
