Well I know it’s been awhile since I sent in a report but I’ve been busy with a few issues. Let’s see what you need to be informed about. Well the last time I wrote, I was about to ride into battle with my host club so that I wouldn’t have to switch families. After a very long and expensive talk with my people back home I decided that maybe it wouldn’t be such a bad thing. So I put up the white flag and switched families. It was hard and yes I did cry…we all did…but that’s the way the cookie crumbled.

My new family is as equally amazing as the first. My parents Gustavo and Tatiana Briones Hidrovo are both journalists. My mom is also a historian and author. I have three brothers…Gustavo (21), Andres (18 who is in the US on exchange) and Daniel (14). They are great (at least the two that I live with). This family is also very famous in Ecuador because my Grandfather, Horacio Hidrovo, is a famous literary poet and writer. He’s travelled all over the world especially in the Latin Community and he recently received his Doctorate in Literature. The first day I met him, I was thinking “Oh lawd he’s going to talk to me using all kinds of huge Spanish words and I’m going to have to pretend like I know what he’s talking about” but that wasn’t the case. We had a great talk about The BAHAMAS and he gave me an autographed book written by him entitled “La Montaña”
My family is small and laid back but are all very intelligent and talented. So I’m guessing my Spanish vocab is going to grow on a whole new level by the time my year is up. They already have me reading a huge book on International Relations seeing as it’s going to be my major in college.

Moving right along. Remember those classes that I was going to take over the vacation. Well art class is in the mornings for 2 hours and dance class starts at 6 for 2 hours… and yes both these classes are everyday. In fact, there is a dance recital on Friday and I have the chance to choreograph the “hip-hop” part, so I am very proud of myself. The other exchange student, Chelsea is choreographing the ballet part. Wish I had a cam cord to tape it for you buuuuuuuuuuuuuuut I don’t.

On the whole things are going great. There are still some bad days that come my way but I’m realizing that my year is quickly coming to an end and this is the time to really take in all that I can because who knows when I’ll come back here. On another note, by the way, my family is planning their vacation time, and it looks like we’ll be heading down to Argentina or up to Mexico for a week so I’m excited and secretly hoping that they choose Argentina.

Well until next time…
