Loy Krathong!

November 6, 2004

Hi everyone! Before I forget, Happy Thanksgiving! Everything here is going good. Nothing very exciting has really happened to me. Schools the same as ever. And since Thailand doesn't celebrate Thanksgiving, my dinner was steak and French Fries. Not that I'm complaining though. Inplace of Thanksgiving, I got the chance to celelbrate Loy Krathong! Loy Krathong is a Thai festival that is used as an apology to the water for polluting it. Krathongs can be made from either paper or Banana leaves, and are made in the shape of a lotus flower. They also have to have a candle and three insence sticks. If you don't make one, you can always buy one. I made one during school, and it took all morning. THen, in the evening, you go down to to a river or canal, light the candle and insence, make a wish, a set your krathong adrift.  My host rotary club encouraged all it's inbounds to dress up in traditional Thai clothes if they could. Lucky for me, I got to! Most of the other inbounds came to the same one I went to, and we had a fun night. One of the other inbounds karaoked Michael Jackson's Billy Jean. He did all the moves too! It was a fun night. I'll wrap my report up by saying both Happy Thanksgiving and, since it's coming quick, Merry Christmas!
