An Island boy in the
Orient
Just to start off, my exchange has been amazing, though I've
only been here for 12 days or so. Thailand is an extremely
different place from the Bahamas, and many of the customs, taboos
ect. I've learned the hard way. For one thing, if you drop money
you don't stop it by stepping on it. The feet are thought to be
the lowest part of the body, and stepping on a coin is a very bad
thing because it has the King's head on it. The king is loved
greatly by all people, so stepping on a coin is a very bad thing
to do. Also, you don't point your feet at people (Monks
especially). This again has to do with the feet being the lowest
part of the body. And never touch a Thai's head. The head is the
highest part of the body and it's very baad to touch another's
head. One thing that isn't taboo here that is back home is being
gay. Here you can be gay and no one cares. It's looked upon as
normal. At home if you were gay you'd be treated like hell and
probably beaten. The best thing here though is school. It's
nothing like home. Here I'm able to do nothing and I can get away
with it! Instead of sleeping the year away though, I'm taking this
opportunity to get all the written details for my video games
down. This way I can plan them out and then get to the actual
creating when I get back. Anyway, Thailand has so many different
classes then at home. They have classes like Thai cooking, Thai
sword dance, Thai Boxing, and a lot others. When the time comes
for me to leave (June 5th)I may not want to leave.

An Island boy in the
Orient Day 2
Just so you all know, I'll be using that same subject title until
I leave. Anyway, I JUST had some serious thought about how long
I'd be gone on this exchange, but it still doesn't bug me. Anyway,
I know some people are gonna be surprised, but I've started a
countdown until I leave. Now before you all start shaking your
heads (Roy if you're reading this and I know you probably are I
know you'd definately shake your head about it) hear me out.
Everyone has their own little quirks. Mine just happens to be
counting down to things. I just can't help it. It's become habit.
Anyway, considering my departure date is June 5th (That's what it
says on my luggage tag) I have 9 months and 11 days left. Pretty
long when you think about it. But to me, that'll pass like the
wind. Now then, onto the days events. Was quite a fun day. The
first part of the morning I spent goofing around in the EP
(English Program) room. That's where the falang teachers (Falang
is a term used to describe foreigners, though not in bad way) hang
out when they aren't teaching. What the falang teachers names are,
I can't remember. Once I do remember though, I'll be sure to write
them down. Anyway, after doing nothing for two periods (Each
period being 50 minutes) I had a Thai sword dance class. Coming
into school last week tuesday (Which was my first day) I wanted to
do all the classes they didn't have at home. So here are the
classes I've got: Japanese, Fruit Carving (I don't know, I don't
ask), Buddhism (In english mind you), Thai cooking, Thai sword
dance, Thai boxing, and Thai music. Back to today. The Thai sword
dance is quite interesting. I've only learned the very basics, but
it's real fun. I left school early because I had to go to a rotary
meeting with my host mother. After a very long two hour meeting (I
almost fell asleep during it) it we left. I got home at about 2:30
and have just been chilling out. I didn't get to have my usual
Banana crepe that I usually get after school (There's a stand
across the stree that sells crepes) but oh well. I don't have to
go to school tomorrow, so it's a good day! ^^
