Thai Summertime

March 6, 2006

I suppose I've kept you all at home in the dark long enough. Not much has happened this past month, but what has happened I've been counting down to. School is over and it's summer time in Thailand. For some reason the school year begins around the start of June and ends at the end of February. I think it may have to do with the seasons here. It's supposed to get really hot these next few months, around 40 degrees Celsius (Over 100 Fahrenheit. If there's one thing I've gotten into a habit of here it's telling temperature in Celsius.) so that might have something to do with it. One part of me isn't too happy that schools out though. Most of me is glad because I no longer have to deal with one teacher who I don't particularly like. Correction: Who most no one at school particularly likes. Another YE who goes to the same school as me described her as the Anti-Thai. But I'm on vacation and as a personal rule don't think of school on vacation. Speaking of which, just like my my vacation in September/October I'm back with Polly's family in Lopburi. (Let the Monkeys and Elephants march!) As before, it's much more laid back then Bangkok. Thankfully not as big or loud either. Since nothing much has happened this post month, I'll talk about what will be happening. Though I didn't mention it in my last report, I was supposed to be going with my host mother in Bangkok on a business trip to China later this month. This has, thanks to to the disorganization of Rotary over here, been cancelled. The trip clashes with one of the Rotary planned bus trips. The trip was supposed to be to the south (Phuket I believe) but because of the Tsunami in December, that has been changed to going to Issan (Sp?) in eastern Thailand. I really wish I could go to China, but I can't and it's no use whining over it. The trip will be for a week I think and I'll definitely have another report for you lot. The second trip will probably be at the start of April, or the very end of March. That trip will be to Chiang Mai in the north. Luckily for us, we'll be up there in time to celebrate Songkran, the Thai new year. I won't spoil anything, so you'll have to wait for my reports on the trips to here what goes on. Until next time!
