Another Month Down January 24, 2005 |

Another month has (more or less) come and gone. I
know everyone must be wanting to hear about the tsunami and everything
since it was really big. All the inbounds here began debating on ways we
could help, but we weren't able to think of any. At first we thought about
giving blood, but most of us were too young. Wish there was more I could.
This month was mostly uneventful, but there were a few things that made it
different. To start with, the two Australian inbounds went home. They had
been here since last January and their time was up. We have two more
coming in who will hopefully be just as fun. I have yet to meet them but
chances are the rest of us inbounds will be having something to meet them.
After that there was only a week of quiet before the next thing happened.
My birthday. Last friday I turned 18. The day was more fun then I expected
it to be, as it was the same day that the school's english festival was.
The english festival was done buy the EP (English Program) teachers. It
involved all orts of contests, including Boggle, tongue twisters and
kareoke. And lucky me got to help judge the tongue twisters and Kareoke.
Several of the students did very well, and I'm honstly surprised at how
good some of the students were at english. After school, my host family
took me out to dinner at a Japanese restaurant. Needless to say, I had
trouble leaving the restaurant. On Sunday, I had the opportunity to go to
Chonburi, a city on the coast. Me being me, I took it. I went with two of
the people who work for my host mother. The trip was for some sort of
seminar, but we stopped at two temples on the way there. The first temple
I didn't want to leave. It was a Thai-Chinese style temple and one of the
most beautiful places I've ever seen. I have pictures and will upload them
to my photobucket account tomorrow. I wasn't allowed to take pictures of
the inside, which annoyed me because the inside was more beautiful then
the outside. Still, I did get to go there which was rewarding enough. The
next temple was right on the ocean, but wasn't anything extraordinary.
After the second te,mple we broke for lunch, and then headed to the
seminar. I only understood bits of it, but got the general gist of what it
was about. It was a very tiring day, but amazing none the less. Hopefully
I'll soon get to see more places soon. |
