Well, someone asked me today, "How long have you been in Finland." And me casually responding about a month. i thought. wow. ive been here for a month. wow. i havent written a report yet. wow. Rotarys gonna kill me. lets see...being as how i havent written one yet i guess i should start from my flight in and such. There were weird, and long. and my butt hurt a lot. I didnt really get to talk to other rotary kids untill we actually got to Helsinki. and went to the language camp for a week. I didnt like it too much, but it was beautiful there so i just kind of sat around and did nothing because that was entertainment enough. Then after that week i met my family who are really nice! they took me to dinner in downtown in a rotating resturate. and i could see all of Tampere from there. For the first week i was here it was 'warm'(i thought it was cold) and it was kind of funny for every finnish person i met saying it was soooo hot. and im standing there in a sweater. i felt silly... Then pretty much for the following two weeks we were going the families friends summer cottages and such. it was crazy! i mean swimming in frezzing cold water, then sauna, then eating makkara(sasuage) three days in row! I swam once in the lake, the water is waaay to cold for me. and ive found that the saunas are hot enough! its crazy! Then theres school...ugh school. I thought school back home was boring, but try changing the language then what! I try not to sleep...no one says anything when i do, but i dont want to seem so rude. But i cant help it! i just sit and stare...its horrible! Everyone can kind of speak english..but theyre so scared that i'll like laugh at them for saying things wrong or something...whatever it is, very few talk to me. and when they do, its very breif. but they sure dont mind staring at me. I thought it was just me being paraniod, but really they do. its kind if creepy. Im beginning to do weird things while they stare, i mean if theyre gonna stare, might as well give em a show. Anyway...I do know about 4 people though. they speak very well, and they are nice. but i cant wait till i can say stuff in finnish. Im actually trying though! Ive got a finnish tutor, and im going to enroll in a finnish corse. Back to school! My class are Math, English, Finnish, Computers, and Art. And the schedual here is so wonky! 5 hours a week and different times for three days. I have really hard time getting up, and getting there on time. mostly because i miss my bus, but also because my body still wont adjust. Sometimes i get up at 6 others i get up at 8, its just so weird. Im starting to cherish having to get up at the same time everyday... I guess thats it...there really isnt much to do here. Its really a just sit around and talk about the weather type of country(really, they honestly have intense conversations about the weather). In a couple of months the sun will only shine for about 5 hours...IM SO READY. Time to hibernate. cant wait. LOVE to all my peeps out there in florida, hope that hurricane aint so bad. |
