jukanoo Festival my host family and I went to Nassau( Bahamas) for the X-mas break. On December 26, we attended to ''Junkanoo". This is a festival which occurs every year in the streets of Nassau. A big parade is organized at this occasion in order to celebrate christmas, and plenty of people come to see it. The main street of Nassau in which the parade took place was overcrowded. The show started at midnight and ended at noon! That was really long but not boring at all.The people taking part in the parade were wearing somptuous costumes and i was winded when i saw them. You could see that it took their stylists a good deal of time to make such costumes. It was amazing, I had never seen such a beautiful show in all my life. The crowd got crazy when the parade started, everyone was dancing and singing. The whole city responded to the rhythm of the drums. While i was taking pictures of the parade, a man suddenly fell down, out of breath, before me. The authorities taking care of the security in this area arrived immediately and tried to revive him. the man laying on the ground didn t move and they had got to start a heart massage. They kept doing so for 15 minutes but unfortunately there was no reaction from the man. I reckoned he was dead .He was evacuated 30 minutes after he fell down for it was difficult for the ambulance to get there. Afterward the parade started again. Everyone forgot rapidly what happended and was happy again. As for me , I couldn t appreciate the parade with the same enthousiasm as before. It took me a while to take the vision of this dead man out of my mind and to have fun again. The hour following this tragedy , I felt bad
having fun cause i couldn t help thinking of this man's family and what a
terrible night it was for them.Little by little , it got out of my mind and
i could enjoy the parade again. Around 6 o'clock, the show got a little bit boring for i was feeling sleepy and I wished i was in my bed. However hard I tried to stay awake, i couldn t help it and i fell asleep several times. At noon we finally got home and i slept all the afternoon. It was the best parade i have ever seen and I
wanted to share this experience with you . Hopefully you will be able to see
some pictures on my page soon. |
