Hi, now it’s my turn writing a report about my “first” month here in Miami, well, actually it’s almost two months now and I am really sorry about not sending it in earlier.  Now to the important things – this time here was and is just wonderful, my host family “the Weinman family” is super nice and it is just fun living with them here in Palmetto Bay   My host mom Alba tries to take me almost everywhere and I really appreciate that. We have a lot of fun together, and I teach her nearly everything about my favorite music while we are in the car. At home I often play the same songs on the guitar. She hates to cook so I am actually starving for something homemade. ;) No I am fine!!!

This year my main food comes out of the freezer or can and is mostly microwaveable.

Anybody who wants to invite me to a real dinner is welcome, just give me a call.

My host dad Doug loves College Football and Ohio State is his favorite team, and every Saturday he tries to teach me more about the rules and teams while we are watching the games. Before each game he always plays the Ohio State fight song and other songs that their band plays. He turns it up so loud that the floor in my room (above the TV room) starts vibrating; anyway … it’s a lot of fun.

He also loves yard work very much, and asks me to help him sometimes for example “mowing the lawn” or mulching branches like we did this weekend.

My host brother Tyler is 12 years old and also a lot of fun. We hang out, and spend much time together playing Videogames or swimming in the pool, or running - wait …

…That’s another story, yesterday we decided to go running (it was almost 11 pm) and go swimming afterwards because I was still dirty from all the yard work we had done in the afternoon. ;) Anyway we got ready to run, I was wearing my bathing suit and sandals and Tyler wore a “go deep with dirty dicks” t-shirt (it is a crab restaurant) J we were four blocks away from home when we noticed a police car cruising beside us. The police officer lowered the window and said, “Hello guys” it was actually the second time she called us. We stopped and then we noticed a second police car right behind the first one. She (the police officer) asked us, “What are you doing so late at night” we both answered “Running” (we were a little bit shocked – especially me). She asked me “Running with sandals???” and I said “Yes, I always run with sandals.” Well after that she asked us where we live and if our parents know that we are out so late at night. We answered “Yes” again. After that she wanted to know our phone number, I didn’t know the number so Tyler gave her the number (now I know why to know the number of my host family’s house). She called Doug and asked if he knew where his sons were. He told her, “Yes they are out running.” Then she reminded him that it was late and told him all the rules about curfew for kids: weekdays 11 pm; and weekends midnight!!!

After she spoke with Doug she also told us the curfew time. She said that everything is alright and she wants us to be at home at least at midnight. The last thing she said was “Alright have fun boys” and we started running again, a little bit shocked!!!

Ok, that’s all for that story, but I especially wanted to tell you about it because it was a new experience for Tyler and for me. We never got stopped by TWO police cars just because we were jogging.

Palmetto Bay is a wonderful place, and there is a lot to see in Miami as well… I think I have seen a lot for the time I have been here, but there is of course a lot more to see.

I have been Downtown, what was great; actually I have never been in such a big city before and never seen such big buildings.

Miami Beach is one of the most beautiful places I have seen here in Miami, we went to the beach and I saw all the Hotels along the coast. It was just amazing.

You should have been to the Marlins baseball game I went to the other night. The Marlins defeated the San Francisco Giants in the last second. And all the fans were going crazy. Doug said that it was the best game he had ever been to.

 “LET’S GO MARLINS!!!”

I have also been to the new Parrot Jungle Island, the Rapids water park in West Palm Beach and to a lot of different malls, such as Saw Grass Mills and Sunset Place etc...

(Which are my favorites!!!)

One day I made the first East Frisian tea for my host mom and Tyler, actually Tyler just wanted to have all the big sugar pieces that are served with the tea but Alba seemed to like it. You can also visit my page for pictures of this special eventJ.

Well, about my school - I don’t like it! It’s too tiring, because it’s way too long.

I am exhausted every night and it’s hard for me to get up in the morning 5: 45 am.

And may too many kids (3500 students – my school at home has 1200) so it’s too crowded in the hallways in the five minute breaks between the classes.

 Ok, I’ve got to go.

Thank you Rotary 6990!!!
