Merry Christmas & a New Year!!!!!!!!!!!

                              CHRISTMAS!!!!

As I walked throughtout the neighbour hood and see the people decorating their houses and preparing Christmas lights. As I ride by and see the Christmas trees blinking its light. As I listen to the christmas musics in cars passing by. Tears began to roll down my eyes because I wonīt be home for Christmas.

My host family and I went to a place called Gramado ( where most of Germans live) It is one of the most famous attractions throughtout Brazil. It is famous because of itīs flowers that can only be found in Japan and France. Every year many tourist comes here expecially during the Christmas season to see the christmas lights and the parades that are held. As we entered the city of Gramado the season of "Natal" greeted us just by looking at the magnificient decorations that was well organized. I have no words on how can I describe the beauty that I saw. I can truly say that I had a great time. I wish that I can go again one last time before I leave.

I spent Christmas with my whole family from Grandpa to Grandma. We celebrated Christmas on December 24, 2001. On that day we exchanged gifts and after we had a family dinner (boy so much to eat). For every time I heard the words "Feliz Natal" tears roll down my eyes. As my family sang songs of Christmas and began reminiscing on their past Christmas I felt so sad. I showed everyone that I was happy but offcourse, my heart was broken. I felt so weird and out of place. I felt like I was missing something in my life. Anyway we returned home I was still sad. If someone had said "Olivia letīs go to the Bahamas" I think that I would have felt happy, but nobody did.

                           HAPPY NEW YEAR (2002)

On December 31, 2001 I spend the day talking to God. I did not come out of my room only when it was time for food. I was happy that we were entering a new year, but boy I miss that big " Bahamian dish" eating some ham or turkey with that delicious peas-n-rice, going to the movies and doing my normal habits. (ya know)  I went to spend the New Year with my first host family. We had dinner and waited for the count down to light up the fire-works. As the seconds were counting down from 10-9-8-7-6-5-4-3-2-1 " Feliz Ano Novo, muita saudé e paz"  We opened up bottles of champagnes  and gived a toss to everyone. We gived hugs and for everyone that hugged me a tear drop from my eyes. I couldnīt help myself but cry. I believe that I was crying for happiness.  I said good-bye to 2001.   I only wanted to hear the voice of my family. Now that the New Year is here I will be counting down the months (heheheh)!!!!

In Brazil there are some traditions for the New Year, It is a custom to wear white clothes, person that lives near the sea jumps over 7 waves and wishes for things in the new year, and if you eat fruits especially grapes, you must eat 12 why? one is for each month. Well I did that !!!!!!!!!!. Now I have 12 roses.

After all I thank God for the New Year in good health and strength. I wish all my fellow exchangees a wonderful New Year and also to the Rotarians!!!!!!!!!!!
