For the past month I have been living with a new host family.Their family name is the Colomer. They have two kids; they have a 19 yeard old daughter and a 17 year old son. Maud, the daughter, was an ecxhange student with the rotary two years ago in California, and is now currently attending University in a bigger city. My host brother, Jean Noel, is in his last year of highschool, and is also a member in a music band. My host father Michelle, is in the furniture industry and travels all over Europe learning different styles of furniture making, and different types of materials used for making furniture. His wife, Sylvie is a journalist for the local city magazine. She writes articles regarding everything that goes on in Thonon Les Bains. Both of my host parents enjoy cross country skiing as a winter sport. For the past few months they have been training for a big c! ross country race on the border of Switzerland and France, otherwise known as Jurai.

This past month has been the best month that I have experienced here in France. Basically every weekend through out the month of January has had something to do with a snow activity. We went skiing my first weekend back from Denmark. I tried skiing that weekend and came to the conclusion that skiing is just not for me. So for the next few weekends I rented a snowboard and worked on my snowboarding. At the beggining it was quite hard to get used to the idea of snowboarding but after spending many hours getting up and falling from the snow I finally figured it out. In Denmark I learned how to go down the baby slopes with out falling but in France I not only made it down the baby slopes but I went down the black slopes and even attempted the competition slopes. Of course I had my occasional falls but in the end I figured it out and can definitly say that my snow boarding has progressed in the past month.

On January 17th the basketball team had a tournament. We won two out of three games and I was the leading scorer and had the most steals on my team. Our next tournament, which is actually the finals is in a bigger city by the name of Annecy.

Also, during this past month I decided that instead of not understanding what was going on in class that it would be better if I studied the basics to French and worked on translating books from english to french. My host sister also bought me a workbook in which I can do basic french excercizes. Through out this past month, my french has really progressed, and now that I can understand everything and speak to the point where people understand me I am going to work on speaking french so that I can improve even more
