| Hello every one, Its Patrick (Sharas). Im spending my year as a rotary
ex-change student in Hokkaidou, Monbetsu, Japan. This is just a small report, I wrote a 4 page one in word 2000 but cant figure out how to send,
because I wrote it on my American laptop, well Ill send it later, soooo this'll just have to do.
Well leaving was the hardest part, getting on the plane in Miami was soooo hard. But after that everything was ooooooooooootay. My layover in Toronto was sooooooooooo bad, furreally. Just about everything went wrong. But that was it, after Toronto everything went smoothly. And right now everythiing's fine. Yesterday I threw little Japanese children around in Judo class after school. It was sooo much fun. My school is real nice, 'cept all the peeople think I'ma kaaaarazy. But I think their're weird, so we're even. My teacher Yamamoto/Terami Sensei is very nice and helpful. But for some reason I alwayz feel more comfortable in the company of adults w/o any other kids my age, so we alwayz have a great time. At first I practiced my kanji, But I was so good at the first book they threw at me that they stepped me up a level. I finished that and am now reading "20,000 leagues under the sea" in Japanese, and surprisingly am understanding a lot. Well what else...... think think think (as pooh would say)......... Oh Yah! my host-family is okay, 'cept they alwayz try and make me eat thingies I know I won't like, like brocholi ect ect ect..... So lifes great. I juss came back from a barbeque thingy-ma-bob. The food was aaight, but they put squids on the barbie and I juss about ran away, they looked sooo gross, juss sizzling there. It looked someone juss picked 'em up out the sea and plopped 'em on there. yuk!! But I do like squid fried sooooooo, I dunno. But Hey! In my part of town they have like 15 seven-eleven quikie marts and I was all like Whoa!! seven eleven in Japan, WoW! An' they havethis quikie mart called seico-mart. An' dere's one right next door to my house, Im talking like I can see it out my bedroom window. Its sorta creepy, cuz Ill juss be lyin' in my room trying to sleep and I can help but feeling like some one's watching. Scary! :-). Aslo like 15 trillion Russian's live in my town, Hokkaidou is soooooooo close to Russia so when the Russian fishermen have some free time they'll stop and visit one of the cities in Hokkaidou, like MONBETSU. Sooo when Im walking down the street, Ill see a Russian and try and hide my face, But because Im like 6'8 they can alwayz tell Im not Japanese. They'll yell sumptin in Russian and Ill yell "Im not Russian" in Japanese and they are juss like Yeah, RIGHT!! So Im kinda scared 'o them. Its like i think Boris Yeltsin or Putin will juss pop out of the bushes and be like "BOO!". +(plus) the Japanese people who see or meet me alwayz are like "are you Russian?". Its sooooooo weird. But enough of that. Im doing great, Monbetsu is fun. OoooooooH! and I went to Sapporo, Its
sooooooooo cool. Its like as big as New York or something. I went to a mitsukoshi (like a sax 5th avenue) which I didnt like all that much. I also
went to their Beer Garden, and ate yakiniku (gingisukan), like an in-door barbeque. It was a lot of fun. Also next week, ill
be going to Tokyo, Kyoto, Osaka, Hiroshima, and Nara on a school trip. Its gonna be
soooooooo much fun, Ill tell you about it next time I write. Welllllllllllllllllll I
guess that's about it, well til' next time, BUH BYE!! ;-> patorikku sharasu. |
