| Dear Everybody, Well I first want to explain something that I think is kinda cool. If you read my last report I think I mentioned someone named Babette. Thats the same person whose picture is on the interenet site. I live with Babette now and its very strange to know that shes coming to Florida or the Bahamas next year. Maybe she will get a real cutlure exchange. She can maybe understand a little bit more about where I come from if shes there herself. When she told me that she was going to Florida that was right after that I got back to them after they were on vacation I thought she was playing a joke on me. Apparently not. I went to go see my school caberet with Floor early in the month. It was actually really good and one of the few after school activities that happens at my school here in the Netherlands. There more focused on academics. That was during the week that Mechteld was in Bangkok. I got back and stayed for a week before I went to Switzerland. My week was busy and I booked a hotel for my parents and just prepared myself for Switzerland. Then Saturday of that week 54 of left to Adelboden for a week. We went to have a basic mountain climbing expedition. The bus ride was 12 hours and it went by fast because I was reading a really good book. Then we unpacked and went on a night hike. The weather when we got there was not that nice it rained for the first 3 or 4 days. In those first 2 days we basically got a condition and went on a couple of hikes. We learned how to read a map and use a compass. We also went sledging with these plastic sledges that you put between your butt and the grond. You lift you leggs up and steer with your arms on handel thats between your legs. I never saw one like that before I came to the Netherlands. Its not the ideal one you think of at Christmas time because you live in Florida. They go super fast. We climbed until 1870 Meters and then we sledged down until 1250 Meters. It was really fun. Then half the group went abseiling. I wasn't really scared at all. I thought it would be cool. It was pretty cool when I got to the middle and I couldn't grab the wall anymore because my legs were to short. I was just hanging there 20 meters about the ground with ropes attached. Slowly letting my self down. The next day we did the "big hike". It was 10 KM with a full back pack. But what really made it interesting was that we were divided into groups with different routes and it was pouring rain. I'm really glad I bought that rain jacket. When we reached the desitination of the cable car to take to the mountain where we were going to sleep for one evening most of the people were soaked. We stayed in a barn. It stunk really bad. The next morning we made igloos and we had to cook our lunch inside them. Luckily the weather had then cleared up. We went snow shoe walking. That was also something I never thought of doing. You feel like a clown with these huge things on your feet. Then we went back to the guest house. The next day it was really warm. We went sledging again but because the snow was too soft we had to use the traditional wooden or plastic sledge. We also used a skibike. Its a single ski with a wooden chair built on to it. It takes a lot of balance and you need to be able to steer. But it was really fast and very fun. That night we went to the disco for 2 hours before going to bed. The last day we had a really hot day of 19 C in the valley. Thats like 70 something degrees I think. We didn't really do anything just hung around until 9 pm when the bus left back to Maastricht. We spent the whole night in the bus and it was 9 am when we got back. In 2 weeks I'm moving for the last time. I guess you could say its the beginning of the end. As my first host mother always says "Het gaat snel ah?" It goes fast huh? Next month my parents are coming with my little sister to visit me. I didn't realise that they were here on a very wel known national holiday "Koningin Dag" Queens Day. April 30th. Its going to be crazy. I hope they bring there Orange because everybodys going to be wearing it. Until the next time, Tot volgende keer, Corinne |
