Sea Camp |
Since 1992 the Directors and Staff at Seacamp have invited Rotary Youth Exchange Students to participate in their annual International Weekend, one of the best opportunities made available to our students during their year long stay in our District. Seacamp, which is part of the Newfound Harbor Marine Institute, was the idea of founder Irene Hooper, a member of the Big Pine Key Rotary Club. The International Weekend was the brainchild of Elena Istomina, to whom we owe an undying debt of gratitude for her tireless efforts. And to the staff of Seacamp, our deepest thanks for your time and dedication, not to mention your sense of humor! It is indeed appreciated! Continuing a tradition started with the Disney Trip of December, 2000 the 2001 version of Seacamp included not only the students from District 6990, but 6930, 6950 and 6970 as well. In all there were 25 Rotary Youth Exchange students from 11 countries, and the weekend also involved a group of 20 students from Garden City, Michigan and 10 students from the Keys (including non-Rotarian exchange students from Brazil and Switzerland). |
